We are having some consistent support issues with the Steam version that are easily solved but they are the same things over and over. We'll try and list everything here. Problem #1 - The gauge FCDU is a black square and when I try to run the external version it gives a "Side by Side error" and crashes. This can be cured easily by downloading and installing this program: fscaptain.net/downloads/SimConnect_61259.msiAny other problems, let us know. We are trying to collect the common ones in this thread. Dutch

It's probably not added an entry to the DLL.XML file. Which is in a different place depending on whether you have the SE alone or alongside FSX.
Which is it in your case?
Then we can start to track this down.

Got Simconnect...I have yet to try FSC in Steam. Is there an easy fix to the dll issues that you guys have sorted? Trying to get it setup so I don't run into issues before I try it...

I still haven't installed SE myself, but I think the most important things to consider are:
- Don't install Steam / FSX-SE to the \Program Files (x86)\ area.
- After installing Steam / FSX-SE (to somewhere other than the \Program Files (x86)\ area), install the correct SimConnect client (linked to in the original post of this thread).
- Install the latest FSUIPC that is appropriate for the SE. (Then check that you have a proper dll.xml file with FSUIPC listed within.)
- Install the latest FSCaptain, and check that it was added to the dll.xml file.
I will revise and extend these issues as necessary....

Does it say the specified account already exists, or the specified file already exists?
'account already exists' on a download doesn't make any sense to me.

Downloading FSCaptain 1.6 now, hoping the black FCDU will be solved. If it doesn't, I'll need to uninstall and redownload everything to install it in another folder :/ Hope everything will work I must add here that STEAM automatically installs SimConnect version v10.0.62608.0 (newer than in the top post here).

UPDATE: reinstalled FSCaptain (1.6.2) and everything works, even in the default C:\Program Files\Steam folder. Just had to make sure the .dll and gauge were allowed at first launch.

Just had to make sure the .dll and gauge were allowed at first launch. Yes, there's only one attempt by FSX to validate external programs & code. If the user does not allow such to run, such will never be able to run until a new build is released. That's a factor of the "2006 security aspects" which FSX was built with....

I'm running FSC in Steam and everything is working fine, been using it for 12 or so flights, but I'm not seeing it in my Add-On menu. I checked my DLL.XML file and there is no entry for FSC. Could you provide the .dll file name and location in the FSX folder so I can add it to my DLL.XML file manually? I didn't see any request for validation from FSX-SE on the first launch after installing.
Thanks in advance.

Sigfreq,
This is what needs to be added to your dll.xml file:
<Launch.Addon> <Name>FSCaptain</Name> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad> <Path>FSCaptain\bin\FSCaptain.dll</Path> </Launch.Addon>
If I might ask, what is the path where it can be found in Steam Edition?
Regards,

Travis,
Thanks for the help and the quick reply. I updated the DLL.xml file and everything seems to be working. On start-up FSX-se asked me to validate the software. I will have a chance to do a couple of flights tomorrow, but a quick test with a plane at the gate worked ok.
Here is the path I added to the DLL.xml, I'm have Steam installed on my E: drive
<Launch.Addon> <Name>FSCaptain</Name> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad> <Path>E:\Steam\SteamApps\common\FSX\FSCaptain\bin\FSCaptain.dll</Path> </Launch.Addon>
Thanks again Travis, I'm really enjoying FS Captain and I will let you know how it worked after I do a few more flights.
Cheer....

Very good Sigfreq - and thanks for the kind words.
Over the weekend, I'll see about making a sticky post on this subject. It seems to come up from time to time.
Happy Flying!
