Hello, I have noticed recently that icing weight does not seem to affect flight performance. I have been getting some crazy weights ranging from 5000 to 15000 pounds and I would expect the turboprops I'm flying to fall out of the sky. Has anyone had similar experiences with P3D5 and icing weight?

Hey, I did notice the unreal ice forming thread and changed the empty weight to -1 but I still get very high icing weights with no change in flight performance. Are there any files or settings that may help?

Hello Robert,
If you're referring to our "Ground Ice weight" then there is no performance hit - unless we fail a flight control.
And if that is the case, then we're putting too much 'theoretical ice' on smaller aircraft. I'll have a look see while I'm poking around in the code.
Feel free to shoot me an FCDU log from such a flight and I'll examine things.

Captains,
I've found a spot in the code to place a guard against "too much initial Ground Ice" being formed on aircraft.
The guard simply considers the aircraft's volume status (tiny, small, medium, large, heavy) and caps the amount of ground ice that we can initially assign to the aircraft.
I've started with respective values of (50lb, 100lb, 200lb, 300lb and 400lb). If anyone has any objections or suggestions either post here or drop me an email.

Hey, is there a way to let the user input this value? I would really love to be able to accelerate the icing in flight too, as I feel it is too tame.

Hi Alan, The "initial Ground Ice" is supposed to represent a random factor. If you start your flight early in the morning, any precipitation and icing from overnight should be present; if you are in the afternoon, icing may be less.
Since you must deice no matter if you have 10 lbs or 1000 lbs, the value doesn't matter... except it should seem realistic. 1000 lb on your Piper Cub is very laughable.
As for in-flight icing... that comes directly from the simulator and I do not know of any way to affect that.
