My current problem is exactly the same as the OP above i am running version 1.7 I have went through all the steps mentioned above with out success. is there a fix for this problem ? I literally can not fly with out ( because fsx crashes and because with out it fsx feels so hallow )

Hi Jennifer v, that is very likely the old Simconnect problem. Simconnect is a part of FSX that enables addon program to communicate with FSX, but it is very buggy. Many addons that use Simconnect extensively have the same issue. I had that problem myself last year and switched to P3D because of it. However, Leen (one of our users) found a way to fix the problem by editing the Windows Registry, see fscaptain.proboards.com/post/15060/threadI need to warn you: editing the Windows Registry requires good knowledge of how Windows works. If you have never done this, there is a serious risk that you could wreck your entire Windows installation. So if you do not know how to do this, you should ask a computer-savvy friend to help you. In any way, the first thing to try is to do a fresh install of FSCaptain 1.7.2 ( fscaptain.proboards.com/thread/2574/fscaptain-1-release-candidate-available ). With some luck, this may already fix the problem. Cheers, Peter

Hello peter and thank you for the fast reply. I am at work currently so can not attempt the regedit just yet.
I notice something wierd apon my multi uninstall reinstalls of fspatian. even though I do a complete uninstall of fscaptian via the unistall.exe and delete all files I can find with fscaptain in the name. when I reinstall it picks up exactly where I left off name airline flights flown flights waiting to be flown. Should it do that or am I missing something on in the uninstall process ?

Hi Jennifer V,
that should not matter. The Simconnect problem is essentially a timing bug in the Simconnect module. If FSCaptain calls Simconnect at the "wrong" time, Windows believes FSCaptain.dll is a security risk and refuses to execute it. By editing the registry, you can force Windows to forget that it considers FSCaptain as dangerous software.
However, if you want to completely uninstall FSCaptain, you should delete the entire FSCaptain folder in your flight simulator. The data about your flights and company are (by default) located in a .log file in FSX\FSCaptain\Data
Cheers, Peter

I looked through the registry both visually and using the find search options I did not find any entry for fscaptain or the fscaptain.dll ? any suggestion on what folder it might be hiding in ?

Hmm, that happened to me as well when I had the problem. I then gave up and switched to P3D (no issues with wnything anymore , and when I upgraded from Win 8 to Win 10, the problem was resolved without me doing anything. I assumed I just wasn't as deeply looking for things as Leen and other users who applied this method successfully. I must admit I cannot help you anymore here, but I will look for Travis' and Dutch's advice. Travis is currently on the road, so it may take a few days until we can come up with more suggestions. Best, Peter

In the past I have often times had problems finding entries in the reg with with FIND I usually find out where the entry I am looking for is located and manually search it my self.... problem is I haven't a clue where to search. I looked through the files and sub files until my eyes nearly bled. Any suggestion on the file paths that locate the Ignore fscaptain.dll ?
thanks for the help Peter. I am starting to regret buying fscaptain though. while I like the dimension it adds to FSX..... it is starting to feel like I am spending more time making it work than actually flying.

Jennifer, First, I am sorry for any confusion that I may introduce - I've been flying eastward (and driving through thundershowers) in the 27th hour of my day. I may not respond for another twelve hours or so until I make it to my destination and eventually awaken.... You first wrote that you tried FSCaptain and it worked "flawlessly" then thereafter you've had problems. What versions were these? "Buying" FSCaptain does not necessitate a change in the installed program - only adding the license key. In theory, reverting to the "demo version" and adding the license key should result in a fully licensed version of the demo version. Thereafter, updating via a Fixpack should be a no-brainer. If you have any ADMIN and FCDU logs, you could ZIP and email them to us for our inspection. Please understand that we are on limited support status for the next two weeks, but we will do our best in the meantime to help. Regards,

Hi Jennifer, I am sorry that you have such a negative experience with FSCaptain. The problem with this bug is that it is virtually impossible to reproduce (you can't generate the problem on purpose) and also not really a problem that is caused by FSCaptain. It can happen with any addon that uses Simconnect in FSX, see, for instance, forum.simflight.com/topic/68382-fsx-fails-to-run-after-fsuipc4-first-installed/ In P3D, the Simconnect module has been fixed and I am not aware of a single case where the user of an addon in P3D had similar issues. I still have FSX installed, so what I will do is to try to create this problem again. However, I cannot promise anything: FSCaptain worked fine with my FSX for two years before I got the Simconnect issue, and I am not sure if it even can reappear under Windows 10. I will keep you informed if I can find something. Peter

I fully appreciate the time you two are taking to help me What I meant by"working flawlessly" flight dispatch gave me flights and ACARS in the planes I installed worked like a charm in the demo version which is 1.6. When I bought the addon I got a dl(for version 1.7) and my serial register code. I continued flying on the demo version. But flying on that version It seemed like flight dispatch kept wanting to give me flights In and around the east cost. So say I picked KMIA ( Miami INTL) flights dispatch gives me destiantions in cali washington and the like since I normally don't have time anymore for 3-5 hour flights it was not practical to me. So I thought even though I registered the demo maybe it was still partially adhering to the rules of the demo. I uninstalled ACARS from my planes uninstalled fscaptain and reinstalled from the ling provided after purchase. After the reinstall My name is joe pilot I fly for emerald air with out anyway to change these ( namely because it will not accept any birthday I enter into the employment application) fine I can deal with that. The primary problem with the newer version how ever is when I select flight dispatch only 3-4 planes show up in the drop down, when I know I have ACARS installed into all of them. Clicking "use an unlisted aircraft" gives me and error " planes ommited from search " and a list of all my planes appear with the reason being " undifined in aricraft.cfg " or something to that effect. After trying some of the trouble shooting for that problem I eventually caved in and reinstalled the demo version and everything works again. well until this problem cropped up on me.May I ask what you mean by fix pack ? GOOD news though! I fixed it What I had to do was uncheck the little box in FIND search options that says exact data string matchs only. In the registery FScaptain is not labled as just FSCaptain nor the entry I was looking for named just "ingore fscaptain.dll" it was actually called " $_ignore <fscaptain.dll>"(so any one reading this make sure you have the exact match box unchecked or you will never find it ) After I deleted that entry I ran FSX again I got the same warning but clicked yes and the sim worked with out crashing, asking me to trust fscaptain.dll now I have a working sim again The OS I am currently running is windows 10 Peter, so it most certainly can happen on this operating system Thank you both so much for the help. Sorry if any of my post seemed rude it is just the frustration of fsx being sooo dang delicate all the time starts to get to you after a while. I am sure Orbx, PMDG,Aerosoft and carenado are tired of hearing from me by this point lol.

Hi Jennifer,
that's great news, I am really glad that you fixed this. And thanks a lot for sharing the information about how to find FSCaptain in the registry. That information would have saved me a lot of time back when I tried to resolve the issue. Good to know that the problem can also appear in Win 10.
As for your other problems: it sounds like you encounter several configuration problems, but we can certainly get that fixed. The first thing to do would be to hop in a plane and start the FCDU. There is some information that FSCaptain needs, and which is only collected by the FCDU. With some luck, this may resolve the problem with your airplanes. The lack of available destinations may have been caused by the settings in your airline. As for the fact that you cannot create a new pilot, that's strange. To analyze all of these problems, could you send us (click on the blue text below) a zip file containing your FSCaptain\Data\Logs directory, your FSCaptain\Aircraft directory and the aircraft.cfg file of one of the airplane models in FSX\Simobjects\Airplanes that are not displayed? Please send it to everyone in the team and copy the html address of this thread in your message so that all of us can think about this.
Cheers, Peter

Peter, Jennifer v Remember that after installing the acars/fcdu into an aircraft (lets say QW757) you must start FSX and select that aircraft, open acars/fcdu and select flight, and it will create an fscaptain.cfg file in fscaptain/airplane folder. Then it will appear in the administrator drop down window. This must be done for each aircraft that appears under unlisted.
