New install after reinstalling my OS. It keeps asking what version of FS I'm running and to select the EXE. Have done that many times. If I don't, it says:
Did not find configuration files. Have you installed FSCaptain yet?
FSC works. I made an airline and pilot. But having to click six dialogs and do a file search every time I open the administrator is annoying. What file do I need to hack to make this stop?

I see this in profile.cfg and it is correct. this file is updated every time I play "pick your simulator" game but the program doesn't seem to want to believe its own entries:
FSROOT=C:\STEAM\STEAMAPPS\COMMON\FSX\ SOROOT=C:\STEAM\STEAMAPPS\COMMON\FSX\ MRROOT=C:\STEAM\STEAMAPPS\COMMON\FSX\

Hi Mjl1966,
I assume you have installed the 32-bit version of FSCaptain? And which version number?

Hi MJ,
We don't look at the directories to determine which simulator is running. I'm not a Steam user, but the last that I knew, it's possible to have a Steam app in a folder without "\STEAM\" or "\STEAMAPPS\" in the pathname.
If you would send me one of your most recent ADMIN logs, I'll tell you what you should do.
Best,

Hi MJL, The README-32.txt file from your 1.8.3.0 installation lists this for your profile.cfg file.... + SUPPORTS is a value which determines which simulator is being supported: * The value for FS9 is 1. * The value for FSX (boxed) is 10. * The value for FSX (Steam) is 11. * The value for Prepar3D v2 is 20. * The value for Prepar3D v3 is 21. * The value for Prepar3D v4 is 22.
* The value for Prepar3D v5 is 23. The FSCaptain installer should write the correct values itself, but for now these values may need to be manually edited.So I would suggest you edit the SUPPORTS= value in your profile.cfg file to " =11" for FSX-Steam.
Please let us know if this works (or not) for you.
Best,

Indeed, a fresh install had SUPPORTS=0. =11 did the trick. How about SUPPORTS=101 for MSFS?

MJ, That's great you have it working again. As for MSFS-2020, if you study the FSX and P3D values (ignore the FS9 value!) you'll quickly determine what its value will be.... Best,
