Hi Peter and Travis,
The fresh reinstall did not work. I did have to… — correct the Supports=11 line in the profile.cfg — the panel.cfg of the B738 was correct. — the Aministrator acted right after adding HMS Bounty exclusion in the “no-scan-folders” file.
Frankly, I’m out of ideas. I also feel bad I messed all the previous work you devs did. If you have any ideas let me know if I can help.
I just remembered when I was first installing FSC, the “Are you using [fill-in-the-blank] simulator?” I bypassed each one by hitting “No” for all of them. The funny thing is the FCDU did appear even if the Administrator did not.

Hi Calvin,
If your FCDU.EXE works, then there's no need to uninstall and reinstall. -----
I still need to see your B737_800's aircraft.cfg file!
-----
Here's the simple test I would like for you to try. If it's successful, you will have 'hidden' your GPS gauge even though the GPS panel window is still accessible.
1. Open your 737_800 panel.cfg file and search for this line - it was in [Window03] when I saw it...
gauge00=fs9gps!gps_500, 0,0 2. In your text editor, place two slash-marks at the beginning of this line, so it looks like this....
//gauge00=fs9gps!gps_500, 0,0 3. Save the panel.cfg file.
Now start FSX with a B738 and open your GPS panel window.
My question is - is the GPS gauge visible or not?
You may end the test by undoing the simple edit from step 2 above.
Best regards,

My apologies. I never recognized you needed the B738 aircraft.cfg. I have attached it and a zip of the panel.cfg. I will report back with test results soon. Calvin

Calvin, Both you and I pretend to fly jet aircraft on a computer. I think at this point, we're beyond apologies. The reason I asked, is that aircraft.cfg files can allow different panel folders to be used for the aircraft being defined. I wanted to check that your aircraft.cfg file was pointing the simulator to a folder simply named "panel" and not a different one. From what I see, everything is normal. It is instructing the simulator to use what's in the "panel" folder. Best,

Travis, YES, the GPS becomes visible on SHIFT+3. So close, yet so far. Calvin
PS - I'm glad we are beyond apologies.

Hi Calvin,
If you can see the GPS gauge when you disabled it in the panel.cfg file, then the only thing I can offer is that the simulator is not using that panel.cfg file as intended. That's beyond FSCaptain's control. And I don't know if there's a setting in Steam or FSX-SE to make it stop or change or whatever.
Assuming that is what's occurring, and there's no clear setting to prevent it, I'm going to lay out a possible workaround for you. There's absolutely no guarantee it will work, so I will also lay out how to undo the workaround.
If you have any questions about any step I'm proposing, then don't do any steps before asking me to explain myself. -----
First, make certain your FSX is shut down.
Now, go to the "steamapps\common\FSX\DLC\379233\SimObjects\Airplanes" location and find the B737_800's panel folder. I'll call that your "Target" as a shortcut, and "\STEAMAPPS\COMMON\FSX\SimObjects\Airplanes" will be your "Source".
Next, try to rename the Target panel.cfg to something that's easily noticible, such as "panel.cfg.TRAVIS" or "panel.cfg.FSCAPTAIN".
If you cannot rename the file (for whatever reason) then stop and let me know. But if you are successful....
Next, copy your Source panel.cfg file into the correct folder in the Target area.
Now this Target folder should have both "panel.cfg" and "panel.cfg.TRAV" files.
At this point, I would want you to start FSX, but before you do that....
If things go badly... to undo these changes all you should need to do is to delete the Target panel.cfg file which you copied over, and then to rename the Target "panel.cfg.TRAV" to "panel.cfg".
Let me know what you think. Don't feel that you have to act rashly where you're not comfortable.
Best,

Hi Travis,
SUCCESS! (See below) What is this magical power you have? I tried to do exactly what you suggested a couple of days ago, but Win10 would not let me change the name.
I can see the FCDU in the menu and using SHIFT+2. I will do a test flight and report back.

Hello, Looks like we have succeeded! Now all I have to do is learn the program. Thank you for all the help. I really appreciate it. Calvin

I peeked at the forum before contacting Pillow Approach last evening, and I was delighted to read that the proposed workaround is working for you! (I had a great night's sleep too - possibly related.)
Since I have no idea as to, "why does Steam do this?" I would council you to keep backups of your changes somewhere in case your current changes are overwritten by something Steam were to do in the future - perhaps an update?
I have highly customized panel.cfg files for my go-to aircraft, and I would be rightly ticked off if they were to revert to their default state!
(FWIW, Shift+2 is my radio panel, +4 is my overhead, +5 my FMS, +6 throttles, +7 my pushback & taxi control, and +9 is always my FCDU.) -------
I spent my first few months as an FSCaptain in the default C208, learning how to best use FSCaptain (and giving Dutch lots of feedback!). It was slow to begin with, but I quickly caught on. So if you have any question on FSCaptain don't hesitate to email or post them here in the forum.
Best,
