Having seen recently a Bird Concentration and Movement Chart for a Turkish airport, I have the following idea/suggestion: Would it be possible to control the probability of a bird strike for certain airports with a cfg file? Airports inside that cfg file would have a higher risk of a bird strike. Maybe it could even be possible to define certain months for an airport with an even higher risk of a bird strike.
For example, that chart of the Turkish airport (LTBR) mentions that the aerodrome is on the bird migration route, having storks in April, May, June and again in September, October.

That's a very nice idea, thanks for posting it, Thomas. I will discuss this with Travis and Dutch.
Cheers, Peter

Yes! I've thought of such for years, and have made minor moves to implement such, but something else always got in the way.
But now this is an official request from a Captain, this will occur (likely not in 1.7.2, but soon thereafter).
Such a Captain-defined configuration file will allow greater customization - for instance, prions and petrels are nocturnally active birds who are attracted to lights. Captains who fly in Antarctica between May and September are cautioned to not fly after dark in areas where those birds would be concentrated.
There is FAA-issued data (for US airports) which includes bird and wildlife cautions... but its in freeform format which makes it difficult to "cultivate" into data tables. (But we'll try....)

Peter, Travis, that's good to hear. If you need more help, I might be able to find some relevant information for European airports.
All the best Thomas

Cool beans!
When we were gathering Customs Service data for the European countries, we had to pull data from PDFs and massage them into what we were building.
We were able to find such for FAA airports, but when it comes to Customs (and Noise Abatement) that is another matter... it's all manual interpretation and entry.

Thomas, I understand. But before you start anything, please email us a few sample PDFs (or links to the "official" versions) and we will look to see if there is any data within that we could use for our database. Because it's more than just "birds." What would you think if on the takeoff roll you were to see a deer (or a jackalope, or a yeti, or a wolverine) dash across the runway???

Wow - I never expected there would be maps. It's good information (but I don't think we could use the map portions) and I thank you for the time and the pointer to where we could get more information. This will be an enhancement for FSCaptain 1.8 and onwards, so for the next month or so we'll be in information gathering mode, looking at other aviation governing agencies' data. Again, thanks!!
