I've set up many places in Alaska to do "off airport" landings at "Hunting Camps" etc for the challenge of getting "in" and "out" safely ("alive"). These landing strips are usually on the side of a mountain or in a lot of trees, may have a difficult approach because of mountains (especially in bad weather), and are always uneven ground, also grass or ice depending on the season, lots of stuff to make it a real challenge, and with FSCaptain to get a good score. So I'm flying my Cessna Grand Caravan (cause it'll land anywhere) with some Hunters and their supplies into a camp one morning.....weather wasn't bad but visibility wasn't great. I know where I'm at cause I been here before but the fog layer is just enough that I can not pick out the landing strip in all the trees. I'm easing it in, just above stall speed, trying to spot it to get lined up, there's a small lake to the right so I know I'm at the right place and can just start to see the flicker of the camp fire in the distance, so I'm not crazy, I am at the correct spot and heading the correct direction but I can't make out the clearing for the strip...................then without thinking I say out loud to the FO "I can't see the runway. Can you see it!?" ......now....if Dutch would've answered I probably would've crapped my pants lol........so now I'm talking to FSCaptain......man, too much time in the flight sim maybe......
I did get us into camp on time. And even got a "nice landing" from the PAX.....but I think they were just happy to be safely on the ground.

Hi Jeff, Nice story.... I know that many users think of FSCaptain as a "tubeliner" add-on, but in my first few FSCaptain flights (as well as my current P3D flights) I commanded a C208 into the brush and bush of the Northwest USA for some very nice scores.... Since then I've bounced from GA to airliners and back again... and Dutch and I have always kept both groups of fliers in our sights as potential customers AND clients.... Interesting things are a'coming later in this year for all FSCaptains.... (Last year brought ice, this year should bring heat....)

Thanks Travis. Can't wait to see what yall come up with next! I've recently started modifying the Items.cfg so I can properly supply my hunters and fishermen, am having a blast with that. Yes I was pleasantly suprised to find how well FSC worked with small aircraft and my off airport excursions. Also I had my first bird strike today. Not sure how long I've been using FSC but had forgot about that option so it was still set at default, seriously totally forgot that was part of the program. I have some decent stereo spkrs set up to immerse myself in the sounds and when that bird hit the plane I jumped lol. Very cool the way the program is put together, just like in real life I probably got a little too relaxed cause it was just another takeoff as usual from my base then "boom!", caught me totally off guard. I'll be more alert next time. You guys keep up the good work! And thanks again! Jeff

I personally think we need more bird strikes in our simulated careers; keep us on our toes.
