I am fanatic when it comes to realism. Besides random failures with FS Captain, I also use RealEngine, cool little free mod that makes sure you are running those engines by the book.
So, IFR to KEUG. One passenger and some other bags adding about 500lb to our Beech Baron. Departing KPEH I join YKM VOR and then BGL and settle in for a non eventful flight, or so I thought...
Flight was ok, sky's were clear below 12000ft with some light chop. As Mt Rainier came in to the sight, things got exciting, and time to buckle up. I got moderate to severe chop passing mount Reiner of to my right, nothing that the old bird couldn't handle. As I was nearing Portland, company sends me alert about some light rain and winds over 15kts, nice, actual IFR with ILS approach to 16.
Clouds are on the horizon, and then comes rain. Icing equipment is on and we continue to plug along, as I enjoy the view of Portland in front of us, suddenly, both engine's start to cut in and out, running rough, smoke...WTF! I am scrambling, changing throttle/ mixture/ fuel tanks, to no avail. My fuel flow is down to 0, and we are starting to drop! No time to mess around, I send emergency request to HQ and then ask ATC for 5000ft, cleared, ok I am troubleshooting some more with no success, time to find the spot to land.
At 5000ft I cancel IFR plan, KPDX on my left, I am high, and that's good. I make right 180 and get clearance for 10R. Popping in and out of clouds, I spot the runway, gear down. 2000ft, I am dropping like a rock 120kts, I will not make the runway, or the shore for that matter. I am sweating, wait, to my left there is a small filed, it's KVUO, do I try to do another 180 at this altitude with speed bleeding off? you tube video of twin crashing after steep bank stall is playing in my head, snap out of it! 45 turn to the left, speed is 110,100,95 trees are coming fast, runway in sight, flaps down, full right rudder, and I bounce once, back on the runway. I finally stop in the grass few feet beyond the edge of the runway.
My hurt is pounding, I can't believe what just happened! I open the door and get the passenger out, then I leave...
Recollecting those times when my instructor pulled the throttle on downwind and said, engine out...that training saved out buts today!
