Captains, with the imminent release of FSCaptain 1.5.0 (Beta), all aviators who will take advantage of the expanded ground and in-flight icing hazards are advised to read these documents located in the FSCaptain File Sharing Area - Documents / De-Icing. The initial set of documents are: NASA's Ground and In-Flight De-Icing Decision Flow Chart -- an excellent decision tree-based document to guide pilots through the steps needed for protected aircraft (with onboard de-icing systems) and unprotected aircraft (without onboard de-icing systems). NASA's De-Icing Checklists for Protected and Unprotected Aircraft -- the same steps, presented in cockpit checklist format. Please note that for the 1.5.0 (Beta) your APU and Packs/Bleeds will not be checked. FAA Guidance and Holdover Time Tables for Winter 2013-2014 -- a very in-depth review of real-world commercial de-icing and anti-icing fluids, with many tables that provide "Holdover Time" values (HOT) which contrast the fluid types in various weather and flight conditions. These times strongly correlate with those published by Transport Canada (TC) and the Association of European Airlines (AEA).

There have been 3 builds since yesterday morning... one more due in ASAP. I'll go out on a limb and speculate on a possible public release would be Friday evening, Eastern US time. Also please note that ground de-icing procedures will not be available with the FCOM. The FCOM has reached its limits as far as input possibilities. Also, with 1.5.0 there are no Ground De-Icing / Anti-Icing visuals - no visible de-icing trucks or rampies with brooms and heaters... it's all audio for now. (Dutch is recording and tweaking his files as I type.) But it works very well in relation to the actual procedure and consequences for failing to follow procedure. Visible models and effect can come later.

I'm 99% sure that because of Dutch's shenanigans, I "roughly" "landed" my Caravan in a "forest" somewhere in Minnesota in the dark. (It was cold & snowy, and I didn't want to bother to turn my de-icing switch on. Sue me, I'm lazy at times.) Anyway, I just got off the phone with Dutch (who was only on short final to Yellowknife - the lucky %u##er!) and I gave him a good dozen-and-a-half reasons to punch-up FSCaptain's logging abilities... at least in beta releases. So 1.5.0 Beta 1 may not appear until really late this US Friday evening... or even early Saturday morning. (Or for our friends who don't live in the US... Saturday UTC mid-morning to late-morning.) However I will be available until (dawn UTC) but then offline from 1700-2300 UTC Saturday November 23rd - and then again online afterwards to triage any FSCaptain support issues. For Captains who like to fly by the book - you're going to love this!... Regards,
