Well, it's working OK now. I hadn't actually removed the Interface line from the panel config, and it's still there now. However, after ensuring that I had full read/write permissions to \FSX\Gauges it's working fine. I guess the docs will need to spell this out. Anyway, now that it's all working, it's a really great job.
Thanks to both of you for your continued dedication to this great product. I really never use FSX without it.
Cheers
Andy

Hi there,
is the external FCDU supposed to be working with FS9? When I have FS9 running and start the external FCDU it simply shows the message "Self-test fail" and "Waiting for FSX".
Cheers

With 1.4.6 I get no sound at all. I have the trial version of the software installed in the root of my P3D folder. Everything else works ok. If I go into the new configuration page for the sounds and try to use the button to play the voices a message comes up to the effect that the voices can't be located. I've checked and all the wav files are where they should be in FSCaptain folder within the root of the p3d folder. Any ideas? Mike

One request - can the external FCDU window be made resizable? I mentioned that I undock it to an iPad using Air Display, but the fixed size means that it only fills a small part of the iPad window and it would be nice to have it full screen. I realise that this is almost certainly not on your radar at present, but I suspect I won't be the only person to try this.

Mike, I will not be back at my development machine until tomorrow but here's something that will help diagnose the problem. Using the playlist section of the sound control window, use the Browse button to locate one of the music files, and then tell me what the full pathname to the music file is, starting with the drive. Example: C:\FSX\FSCaptain\sound\Music\Somewhere_Sunny.MP3

Andy,
That (resizing) is noted for future work.

And IIRC, the current version of the external FCDU is FSX-only - it requires SimConnect.

Hi Dutch, did as you requested, the path name is C:\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D\FSCaptain\Sound\Music\Somewhere_Sunny.mp3
This is the message when I try to "Listen" "Music could not be opened" or "Voice could not be opened" if I try the voices.
If I navigate to any of the voice or music files with media player they all play ok.
Regards Mike

I'm getting a side by side error when I try to run the FCDU on a remote computer connected via sim connect.
Any ideas.
Thanks

I have simconnect on the remote pc as I run activesky2012 on it without any issues. Looking at the event viewer it says:
Activation context generation failed for "C:\Users\XXXX\Desktop\FCDU.exe". Dependent Assembly Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect ,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="67c7c14424d61b5b",type="win32",version="10.0.61242.0" could not be found. Please use sxstrace.exe for detailed diagnosis.
The external CDU does work fine on the computer running FSX just not on the remote computer.

Nevermind found the 10.0.61242 simconnect version. Seems I have an older version which is why I was getting the side by side error. OPUS gives you an older simconnect.msi to install which is the one I installed but it doesn't work with FSCaptain.
May want to include that version of simconnect. I found it on the Pilotedge boards from the developer who had it.
Thanks.

Yes, I'd like to send you a diagnostic program which will give a more detailed error message. PM me with your email if you would like to run it for me and see what is causing this.

Having trouble with the external FCDU: It suddenly points to the FS9 directory and is using the aircraft cfg there. It also doesn't recognize the Majestic Dash anymore (it worked the first 2 flights).
