hello,
I fly VFR and sometimes I have to descend in order to avoid a cloud layer. The flight attendant wrongly announces "we are beginning our descent". I think it is not her business. In my opinion, it is for the captain to announce that. What do you think?

Hm, you may have a point. I've heard it done both ways when I've been back on coach, sometimes the flight crew says it and sometimes the attendants.
Change under consideration.
Meanwhile if you want Heidi to not announce the descent at all, look in FSCaptain\sounds\FA_Heidi and rename any file there starting with the letters DES.

hi dutch the problem is that once the descent is announced, it is no longer possible to select the report position action in the FCOM menu. In addition FCOM displays the descent status which is not true when you simply avoid a cloud layer and climb back afterwards to your planned cruise level.

Avoiding the "I don't think commercial PAX flights can legally operate in VFR conditions these days," do you use PLN files through the Administrator for these flights? What are the altitudes that you're usually at versus how far do you descend to avoid those darn clouds?

hello, I have an exemption issued by the FAA to operate charter flights in VFR with dutch's DC3C. I select my VFR flights from the fourflights website. Then I type my destination airport in FCOM and fly VFR, with real weather over photoscenery. I prepare my flights carefully by selecting appropriate landmarks on my route. I find it very challenging to fly using pilotage and dead reckoning. I admire the scenery instead of following VORs while crossing clouds. The possibility of being lost is exciting. In addition I have take the wind into account to calculate my heading. Sometimes the cloud layer is lower than forecasted so I have to modify my planned cruise level. That is real aviation!!

I was looking for a way that a specific flight could be recognized as a "vfr" flight and so the "descent" rules could then be relaxed.
I used to be a seat-of-my-pants flyer, until I wanted the challenge of radio navigation - then I got hooked.
Now I'll wonder in Dutch's general direction whether the "descent detection rules" could be relaxed for either unpressurized aircraft and/or for aircraft that don't climb above the transistion altitude and/or for aircraft that don't file a flight plan at all??
