This is an idea that goes all way back to the beta for release 1.00, but perhaps its time has come.
The idea is that you should be able to protest or appeal a penalty you don't think is fair, without having to erase the whole flight.
The problem is how does a computer program determine what is "fair" and if it is too liberal then why have penalties at all?
Another problem we have is what tangible rewards do we get for advancing our careers and doing an amazing job?
Seems to me these two could be combined.
Award appeals based on a point system. Award an attaboy for every good thing you do. Put an attaboy price on every appealable penalty. Add an "appeal" button to the view details, and let the Captain spend what points he's accumulated to erase a penalty he feels isn't fair.
I really like this idea. And it's pretty cheap to implement. We'll need to come up with lists of attaboy earners and penalty prices if we choose to go this route. An obvious idea is to base it on the current Quality Point system. Right now I have 555 quality points. If it cost me 100 points per penalty I could go back and protest 5 I didn't like before I run out of points. The penalty price should be related to the score points each cost you though, not 100 per. But they shouldn't be cheap.
Page 99 in the user guide for 1.3.1 lists all the penalties and the points each cost your score. I'm almost ready to say a reasonable QP cost would be the score points times 10, and with time-related penalties not being appealable.
I should be clear that "using" quality points in this way wouldn't reduce your quality point score. It would be just that the points available to spend on appeals would be your current quality point total minus all the points you've previously spent on appeals (if any.)

How many quality points have you guys accumulated?
