Hi, lately I've done some testing with different (free) weather programs. The one really works well for me is FSrealWX (free & paid version possible) In FScaptain I've configured the weather so it will read the file generated by FSrealWX and that's working fine. But winds aloft are not in the file so not available for FScaptain to read. As FSrealWX is injecting the winds aloft into the FSX and If I configure FScaptain to use FSX weather than I'll get the winds aloft. I'm using simbrief to generate my flightplan and use this in FSX, PMDG ngx and FScaptain. Simbrief also can (is) generate a PMDG Wind Uplink file that you can download. It's a .wx file but basically a text file (can be read in notepad) Question: Could it be possible for you to read 1) the metar/taf file from the file generated by FSrealWX 2) the PMDG Winds Uplink to populate the winds aloft.
Thank you, Luc

Captain Luc,
I stumbled across FSrealWX several years ago, and worked with Dutch to implement its format for FSCaptain.
Dutch put many hours in to deciphering their upper level wind data, but their format had too many variable paths for us to be able to create a model against.
After they changed their format (from FSrealWX), we abandoned support.
In regards to this "PMDG Winds Uplink" file, I have never heard of it or its format.. If you could build a few of these files (along with other weather files) for us to decipher (we would need some set of keys or other deciphering data) we will investigate.

Hi Luc and Trav,
I just have send Travis the relevant information about PMDG wind uplink files.
Best, Peter

We have the format and will need to defer any work on this until "FSCaptain Next" (not a real name). This format is similar in type to that used by Opus for its "Flight Plan WX" files and that style is different enough from the one used by other weather engines that adapting to it will take a totally different approach. Funny enough, it's a simpler style... just totally different. Best,

Hi Captain Travis, I happened to get some response too from the developer from FSrealWX. He's willing to look into this to see if he can create and save a file with winds aloft. He asked if it would be possible to supply him with a template of how the file should look like. I guess the simpler the better? Thanks for looking into this. Cheers, Luc

Hi Luc,
We cannot work on any changes to a weather file format until what may be called FSCaptain 2.0 - or shortly thereafter. That would be many weeks into the future.
If you can convince the FSrealWX to use one of the other engines' formats (the Active Sky format would seem to be the closest) then we would have no problem to reading their data.
Regards,
