One of the shortest yet panic filled flights I’ve ever had. Taking off from Juneau (PAJN) heading south I get airbourne and retract the gear. Next it’s flaps up time and got quite a scare as there was a huge bang the second I flipped the switch. The impact was actually a bird strike and just coincidence with the timing but certainly added to the “What the …. was that?” feeling. The FO tells me it was only a bird and I’ve not broken my flaps but almost immediately I find out it’s far worse anyway as the single engine splutters and dies. I’ve got no altitude to make a choice other than what was infront of me but fortunately I picked the right plane with my Stationair amphibian and two lovely big floats strapped to the bottom of it ensured a safe touchdown and 105 points. Job done. I think I taxied almost as far as I flew today. ;D Right, I’m off to go and search for a freeware boat to download now….. I’m still stuck in the middle of the river.

Wow exciting flight And I love your illustration. In my career so far I've flown 364 hours, and had 3 bird strikes; two causing engine failures and one nothing but bird guts for the ground crew to clean up. Dutch

Wow exciting flight And I love your illustration. Seconded! Just out of curiosity (read: inexperience), I wonder what FSCaptain would've made of that River Hudson landing... David
