I'd like you guys opinions on this if you would.
These are two potential enhancements involving passenger flights. The first is creating a nod to some form of IFE, such as in-flight movies. I've not done anything on this issue because while IFE is a big thing to passengers, to the flight crew I don't think it enters their minds except in odd circumstances such as IFE failure. Does it matter to the pilots how the passengers amuse themselves? If I were up there they could all be playing Scrabble for all I care. To my knowledge pilots don't typically involve themselves in what movie is played or when. That's the FA's job. So I didn't make that a part of FSCaptain.
But somehow players seem to expect to have some hand in managing some aspect of IFE. I'm thinking maybe I could include an FA announcement on longer flights about the movie starting -- but that's problematical too. On propliners, were movies typically shown? It seems that's only on jets, and only on medium sized ones. Larger long-haul aircraft today seem to often have individual IFE for every passenger so there's no involvement by FA's at all except maybe to sell headsets for $5 each or something.
What would you guys expect to do with IFE as the PIC?
Second, I'm seriously considering a menu of passenger announcements from the FO. I'd like to hold it to 8 announcements to correspond to the FCOM function keys but I'm not limited to 8, a menu structure can be created to access as many as we want.
What announcements could/should be available? Here's my first cut at an idea:
1. General welcome to passengers saying we'll take good care of you and be underway shortly.
2. Announcement that traffic ahead will delay takeoff and please be patient.
3. Announcement about light turbulence - "we're experiencing some light chop and have turned on the seatbelt sign."
4. Moderate turbulence - "We've turned on the sign, please return to your seats."
5. Heavy turbulence -- "We are experiencing heavy turbulence, everyone please stay seated and secure loose items, FA's please secure the cabin."
6. Warning that weather may delay approach, will keep you updated.
7. Announcement that we are holding due to traffic conditions and will keep you updated.
8. Announcement that we're on schedule and should be landing in a few minutes.
Note that such events as diversions to alternate, emergencies, and the like are already announced to the passengers from the FA's.
Your thoughts, please.
