Dutch,
This is not something new... but I've been watching it as you do releases to see if it changes, but no go. Basically the issues is that during the installation process when you're brought into the installation path it presents you with the following:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\MyProduct"
The above may vary depending on OS, OS Configuration, and possibly FS version. I only use FSX on x64 bit systems.
Due to the above you actually have to look for the main MSFSX (in my case) folder to point the update/install to go to.
Dutch can you look into adding some additional code to search the registry first for the installation path of FSX/FS9 and use it as the default installation path instead of using the default Installation program's path? This will help facilitate further the install/upgrade process.
If by any chance the aforementioned can't be accomplished then I will recommend adding a "NOTE" section under the "Install Path" screen stating to where exactly to point the install path to go to under a "default" installation... much like a (e.g. ...\...\).

This must be something tied to 64-bit systems -- it finds the correct registry entry for me on my 32-bit XP system just fine.
So I'll have to look into it, it's the first time I've heard of this problem.
Thanks for pointing it out.

Dutch,
A little help on your troubleshooting... on x64 base systems which experience x86 architecture, applications loaded on them won't quite get placed where you would think registry keys are. In this example you'll notice that x86 application registry keys will get placed under the "Wow6432Node"... (in my installation) here's the FSX path in the registry that will tell it where FSX is installed:
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\microsoft games\flight simulator\10.0"
The key that will contain the path is named "SetupPath" as you know.
Thanks

Unfortunately I use a canned installation program called the Clickteam Installer, and it only allows me to specify one registry key to use.
I'll see if there's an update for it that'll allow more than one, or supports the 64-bit OSes.

Dutch, Got it... well I guess as a last restore it will be good to add a "NOTE" section on the "Path Selection" screen letting x64 user's know an example of where the install and/or patch should be pointing to. I say this because at the beginning I didn't quite know where to point it to, but figure it out. Is good to take the "figuring out" part out of the install process. Thanks
