Captains, There have been quite a number of fixes and a few enhancements to the ever-growing 1.6.1, so we thought we'd put out another beta for a couple of days only. Then that will be it. Further enhancements and fixes will have to wait until the next update, which should be fairly soon since Travis is already working on it.This Beta was compiled with the latest 2013 version of Visual Studio. That's another good reason to test it a bit before making it official. Steam users should download and re-install the full version below instead of the Fixpack. You will be at the same 1.6.1 level as all others when you do this. If you have managed to make any flights under the Steam version, they will be preserved by this procedure, and your registration will remain intact. You do not need to un-install FSCaptain 1.6.0 first.

(Just in case.) Dutch

These enhancements were included with version 1.6.1: ----------------------------------------------------
- FScaptain is now compatible with the FSX Steam Edition.
- More complete integration with GSX (Ground Services X from FS Dream Team)
- A new option is available on the Aircraft Configuration: Maximum Takeoff Weight. Previously this was always Maximum Gross Weight. If omitted (less than 1) in the new option the default will be Maximum Gross Weight. But if specified it will be used instead. This cannot be less than the Landing Weight.
- FSCaptain now supports helicopters with a new option on the Aircraft configuration page of the Admin.
- More variation in load numbers for flights using the Load Factor calculation, partly calculated based on size of departure and destination airports.
- A new option is available in Options.cfg: ENABLEOFFLINEFAULT. By default it is zero, which is the previous functionality. But set it to 1 and the FSCaptain random mechanical fault generator will work when you have the FCDU in Offline mode.
- A new built-in interface is provided for the Captain Sim L-1011
These problems are fixed in 1.6.1: -----------------------------------
ID#0307: Messages truncated in Virtual Airline Export Window. ID#0309: Scheduled flights to small airfields (actually very short flights) never assigned. ID#0311: Coolsky DC-9 Rate of Climb and Window Heat not working. ID#0312: Conversion from pounds to KG not always correct. ID#0313: The First Officer mumbles on about icing hazards after the airplane has landed. ID#0314: On the Arrival page the DETAILS and STATS selections do not work. ID#0315: "Reason for rejection" list in Admin does not list correct reason. ID#0317: When no external weather is configured Flight Dispatch says Wx data is very, very old. ID#0318: Max extra cargo capacity is negative. ID#0319: Admin planner will not allow access to the last leg of a multi-leg flight. ID#0320: Admin can't handle multi-leg flights with the same destination listed twice. ID#0321: Admin reports "Your chosen altitude is too high for that distance" without considering airport altitudes.

Feel free to install and run it if if you want. It's almost an official release. We think it's pretty solid. Once we're completely sure we'll release it officially.

This works so much better for me. F/O now does and say what he should. I now get the Stewardess vocals. I now get taxi music. The autoload seems more realistic on timings.
Only one issue I had was the F/O saying 'What are you doing' about 3 times during my ascent from EGLL up to 19,000. Everything was fine. So, not sure why he was chirping. Off to fly another route shortly. See how that one looks.

Hi Terry,
great to hear the new version works well for you. The F/O usually complains if your g-forces are too far away from 1, or if your are climbing/descending too fast. The latter depends on the plane. If I recall correctly, the rate is about 6000 ft/min for the 777, about 4000 ft/min for most other jets, and less for other planes.
Cheers, Peter

Hi,
i can't make it work on a win7 pro 64 bits.
I can't start fcdu.exe (side by side error blah blah) and have a black box inside the cockpit
It sounds there is a problem in targetting x86 32 bits at compilation with a steam simconnect 64 bits installed.
Hope it helps.

I am running it here with the Steam edition on Windows 7 64-bit and using the Steam-provided SimConnect clients. So I don't think it's a matter of universal incompatibility -- if so, it wouldn't run on anyone's 64-bit Steam system. But it does.
The question is why is it not compatible with yours? And that's what we want to find out.
Could you use Event Viewer after provoking the SxS error, and take a look at the log of the crash and post what it says? That gives us a major clue what the SxS error really is. If necessary we can also use the SxS Tracer utility to get even more details. Hopefully the log will tell us what we need to know.

Do you have a fsx steam version alone? I have uninstalled the original fsx version. The event log mentions that the gauges (fscaptain and B707 sound from captain sim) can't find the Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnectMicrosoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect.dll 10.0.61259.0 This vesrion is the one from acceleration www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/simconnect-dll-versions.11059/I guess that if you have acceleration installed besides steam the two simconnect.dll are available. But if you have only the steam version all the addons which use the old version can't connect to simconnect. FCDU.exe requires the old one. La création du contexte d’activation a échoué pour « D:\steam\steamapps\common\FSX\FSCaptain\Bin\FCDU.exe ». Assembly dépendant Microsoft.FlightSimulator.SimConnect,processorArchitecture="x86",publicKeyToken="67c7c14424d61b5b",type="win32",version="10.0.61259.0" introuvable. Utilisez sxstrace.exe pour un diagnostic détaillé.

Steam contains all the old SimConnect versions. They are in [Your Steam FSX Root Folder]\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces. The FSX-XPACK folder contains the one for Acceleration which is compatible with FDCU.
If you haven't you could try and install that one and see if the problem clears up.

Ok it fixed my problem. Everything runs fine now. Maybe you should pin this info somewhere because i am sure many folks will uninstall old fsx version if dovetail makes important updates to fsx. I didn't put my hands in the FSX mess since a long time. Back on deck now !!
Thanks

That's going to be a problem with all add-ons that use SimConnect from X-PACK, not just us. So any Steam users that want to use any SimConnect add-on are going to have to install these legacy SimConnect versions. This is made worse because programs compiled with the Steam version of SimConnect aren't backwards compatible with X-PACK and earlier. So developers can't just recompile with the new Steam version and be done with it. They have to stick with the X-PACK version to connect to both X-PACK and Steam.

Since updating from 1.6.0 to the latest RC2, I get the error "Admin.exe is not a valid Win32 application" and I am not able to launch FSCaptain. My system: FS9.1 on an English Win XP 64 bit

Thomas,
We have reproduced and identified the problem and are working on a solution. It's a compatibility issue between Visual Studio 2013 binaries and XP. The next RC will be compatible with XP even if we have to go back to using VS2008 just for that.
This is exactly why we put out a Release Candidate for everyone to try! The possible compatibility issues in the PC world are mind-boggling.
