Hi Dutch, There is a way to read the current METAR using Active Sky(AS). AS generates a "current weather" snapshot txt file that list the current METARs being used by AS for all AS supported ICAOs. rapidshare.com/files/319548664/current_wx_snapshot.txtMaybe there could be an option in the Administator to choose, as an option, AS as a weather source for METAR queries in FCOM? Then FCOM could query the "current weather" txt file with the ICAO code and obtain the info from there. What do you think? Devin

Just to clarify further, the lines that are procuded include the METAR the TAF and upper level winds:
CYOW::CYOW 282000Z 28017G24KT 15SM FEW027 SCT240 03/M02 A2968 RMK SC2CI1 SLP056::CYOW 282038Z 2821/2918 28018G28KT P6SM FEW025 FM282200 29012G22KT P6SM BKN030 BKN060 BECMG 2905/2907 28005KT FM291200 VRB03KT P6SM BKN040 FM291700 VRB03KT P6SM BKN015::316,020,01.2/331,034,-00.6/330,035,-02.3/331,040,-11.2/328,050,-23.2/334,054,-35.3/333,050,-49.7/318,039,-52.0/318,034,-51.3
CYOW is the identifier
The METAR follows - ::CYOW 282000Z 28017G24KT 15SM FEW027 SCT240 03/M02 A2968 RMK SC2CI1 SLP056
The TAF right after - ::CYOW 282038Z 2821/2918 28018G28KT P6SM FEW025 FM282200 29012G22KT P6SM BKN030 BKN060 BECMG 2905/2907 28005KT FM291200 VRB03KT P6SM BKN040 FM291700 VRB03KT P6SM BKN015::
And the upper winds for FL030 FL060 FL090 FL120 FL180 FL240 FL300 FL340 FL390 - ::316,020,01.2/331,034,-00.6/330,035,-02.3/331,040,-11.2/328,050,-23.2/334,054,-35.3/333,050,-49.7/318,039,-52.0/318,034,-51.3
ie: FL030 is 316T/20KTS 1.2*C FL060 is 331T/34KTS -0.6*C FL090 is 330T/35KTS -2.3*C etc...

Thanks Devin. That's very helpful information.
What I really want to do is be able to read a .WX format file. I'm searching for the format info so far without much luck.

I noticed that weather reading is pretty inconsistent during a flight. I get numerous messages with weather advisory, changing ones, but they are all different from the weather I see at the destination. Might be that it is because I am using ASA and FSCaptain is not :-)

FSCaptain doesn't do anything with the weather except read it via FSUIPC or SimConnect (depending on whether FS9 or FSX.) All the weather readings on the FCOM are just a direct translation of the weather as set at a station. ASA is just another way to set the station data. It really doesn't matter to FSCaptain what sets the weather, it only reads it. As to how the weather settings are interpreted and shown to you in the sim FSCaptain has no control or interest. If you use a weather reading program (WeatherSet is part of the FSUIPC package I believe) that will show you the details of weather at a station at the same time that it is obtained on the FCOM I think you'll see that they match. I've noticed that in FSX particularly the weather looks much less forbidding when I fly through it that it looks on paper Dutch
