Hello,
I have just installed FsCaptain demo on a Vista 64bits Acer Predator 7700 PC with FS9.1 to evaluate the program.
I am trying to get the FCom installer running but it does not appear at all. I can see it running within Windows Task Manager but that's all, nothing else and I have to end the process as nothing is displayed. Am I missing something somewhere here? I am running it as administrator and I tried also to run it under Windows XP compatibility mode.
Thank you for your help.

That's an usual problem that I haven't seen before. Let me do some research on what could be producing that weird behavior and then I'll get back to you here.

alexair: I found out that starting with the button from the first window does not work, but separate starting from the shortcut as administrator works fine. @dutch: It seems that the button has a wrong event connected to it. In Win7-x64, FSX is installed in \Program Files (x86) %Programfiles(x86)%, perhaps thats the problem with the button?

Hello Kebas,
Thanks for your help but unfortunately it still doesn't work at all. Whatever I try with the shorcut, via the main admin window or even directly via the exe in the bin folder, nothing is working, still appear within window task manager but that's all...

I'm researching this - it's still a mystery but will unravel.

Hello Dutch,
Any news concerning the problem about the FCOM not appearing?
I was able to install manually both gauges on an aircraft's panel for test. It is working quite good and the program seems very promising for me but of course it is a real problem not having the FCOM installer as I have installed the gauge but very basically over some instruments for the test.
I really am impatient to try it more with different aircraft and will most probably buy the software as soon as the problem will be fixed.
By the way, I have a question: Is there a volume control/button to increase/decrease the level of the various sounds? I tried the software on a little bit noisy aircraft and was barely able to hear background (most of the time was just not clear enough to understand what was going on). But I don't want to change all the time the sounds in FS menu.
If not, then it probably could be something you might want to add on the wish list...
Thanks for your support.

Hello Dutch,
I have just installed the Fixpack update 1.00.04, restarted the computer and tried the FCOM Installer (via the FCOM exe and within the Administration board).
The result is the same, still not FCOM Installer appearing (still appear within the task manager). tried again as admin, XP compatibility, etc... Still nothing.

If you right click on the task bar and select "maximize" does the Installer appear then?

Hello Dutch,
The installer doesn't appear at all in the task bar at the bottom of the desktop (if that's what you mean). It doesn't appear neither in the "Application" window of the Task Manager. The only thing that I can see is the Installer.exe process (2,116k) in the "Process" window of the Task Manager.
I can tell that the program is starting by a small delay loop stuff that appear under window Vista when you start a program and then nothing, only the process under Task Manager.

That ruins my theory -- which was that it was running but located off-screen. It's like it's not getting started completely. Perhaps something is hanging it during initialization. But what???

Hello Dutch, Sorry to have ruined your theory... Just to be sure that you can investigate the problem: I am running under Vista 64bits and FS9.1. I have (normally) removed the infamous Vista users protection. I am using Avira anti-virus and default Vista's firewall. Is there anything from the above that can be related one way or the other to FsCaptain and that might create a problem somewhere?? Maybe a directx problem? Normally I have Dx9 and 10 and I understood that Vista is using the proper one required for the program. Is that right? I'm good at flying but bad at PC but I just want to give my 2cents contribution to your hard work... Keep up with the good work and the very good support!! Alex

Hi Dutch, I'm new to FSCaptain (late bloomer ) and I'm having an issue. FSCaptain installed correctly, but as the others have posted... trying to run the FCOM installer doesn't work. I get the same issue where it "starts" but never actually loads. In other words, I too see it in my processes list which uses 25% of my CPU (real bad if I click on it a couple times). The program though never actually loads. I have also tried to go into the admin program (which works fine) but it still hangs without loading the installer. I'm using Windows 7 x64 and FSX. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. I can't wait to try this out. Jack "One Shot" McPeek virtual-nato.org ACER M3800. Windows 7 x64. Q8300 (2.5Ghz). 6Gb DDR3. ATI HD4650.

Hey Dutch, I still haven't gotten mine to work, but I know something that isn't causing it. For some fsx 3rd party software, FSCopilot (FSInn for VATSIM) was blocking parts of the software. After deleting FSCopilot I still have the same issue. Is there maybe a log that is created that may show an error of some sort that I can email you?

Dutch, sorry to keep posting, but I can't edit my previous posts and I really would like to try your software. Is it possible the error is somewhere in the fscaptain.dll file within the bin folder? I tried to reinstall fscaptain to a different folder and overwrite the one I had... and it won't let me. Even doing a "takeown" command on the file, and changing the admin mode, it still won't let me delete or overwrite the one that is there. maybe something with win7 x64 is blocking it?
