I've posted my "How to write an XML interface document" for the alpha team to review. Once it passes muster (or if I run out of mustard) I'll post it in the file area.
The document is intended to (at a minimum) guide our fellow Captains to gather the data we'd need to make an interface for aircraft that we don't have.

If anyone's using this interface- would they be so kind as to post their panel.cfg... I'm trying without success to install this and while I'm convinced that FScaptain NEVER hurts an installation- it seems to be causing this DC9 to either crash with a "can't load" popup window, or load with no gauges working. I'm stumped! I promise I'm keeping the splash window as the last one

First, since it's been so long away from this a/c for me, I honestly don't know if there have been any updates. What version does it indicate for you?
This is one of a few a/c that the Installer cannot properly handle, because the a/c is so reliant on specific things occurring, that it's difficult (but not impossible) to interface with. It's a shame because this is such a wonderful a/c in that it will teach you how to fly it if you use its instructional materials!
From my last flight (I've not flown this a/c in the past 10 months) I had to include the FDR in the same window as the Gauge - the FDR would not execute properly from the VCockpit. Have your tried the manual adjustments in my posts earlier in this thread? Are you using the Gauge version of the FSCaptail ACARS or are you using the standalone FCDU.EXE?
If you email me your panel.cfg, I will give it a test with my (original) version of the CS-DC9, and I will return it to you as soon as possible. (I will be offline for my Saturday, as well as for several days next week.)

Thanks Travis,
I used the guidance earlier in this thread- I'd use the ACARS installer in the administrator and selected Window 7 from the list; thus, the ACARS window was inserted into window 8 to match what was said in this thread. I then went directly to the panel.cfg and moved the FDR entry from the vcockpit section up to window 8. When I get home tomorrow (or sunday) I'll shoot you an email.

Roger that. I'll be simulator-withdrawn for the next 24 hours or so. We had a heckuva loud parade locally, and I've got some cleanup to manage (darn Treat-or-Tricksters!) and some things to handle on our Saturday. Back in November....

All, I absolutely love this aircraft real and sim; I still do not understand how to get FSC to work with the "9". I somewhat understand on changing the panel .cfg, however I am unable to change the file even though I am logging into Windows 8 as the admin. Will FSC v5.1 be able to install FSCOM into the DC-9 without doing is manually? Thanks for any shout out! r/ Joe

Hi Joe,
I don't own that plane but I am also on Win 8. Did you install FSX in C:Program Files or somewhere else? Are you using Notepad to edit the panel.cfg file or something else?
Cheers, Peter

"All, I absolutely love this aircraft real and sim; I still do not understand how to get FSC to work with the "9"." As the local HJG person here, might I suggest trying some of HJG's DC-9s? I have no problem with any HJG plane and FSC. simviation.com/hjg/downloads.htmJust be sure to follow the installation instructions closely. Mike

First, HJG aircraft are cool. I've adopted an L-1011 as that aircraft was a favorite of mine from pre-PC younger days of aviation reading.
The CoolSky DC-9 is great too. I really dig its interactive learning modules.
But the CS DC-9 is a pain to get to work properly with FSCaptain... that's because they had to go out of the box to make their aircraft work as they wanted it to. That's fair enough... the A2A aircraft and the Majestic aircraft are similarly difficult to interface with... but well worth it.
The trick is, in FSX/P3D the FSCaptain Flight Data Recorder (FDR) gauge has to run in concert with the ACARS gauge. And for some {magic?} reason, anything running after the CoolSky DC-9's "Splash" screen doesn't work as we would expect it to.
So with the CoolSky DC-9, Captains have to manually move the FDR gauge into the same window as the ACARS gauge. The installer isn't aware of this catch, but I hope to have it ready for the Next Great Version of FSCaptain.

Thank you all for the replies; as I'm sure it gets tiring of talking about the same thing here. But forgive my lack of "post Windows 3.1" knowledge here...lol... I seem to have a hard time grasping changing .cfg files. So, mnmom thanks for the advice and Travis thank you for the further explanation here. Peter I am accessing the .cfg file by just going to the traditional "My Computer" folder icon, then to the C:\, then to Program files, etc., etc. then to open the file in Notepad. r/ Joe

Peter I am accessing the .cfg file by just going to the traditional "My Computer" folder icon, then to the C:\, then to Program files, etc., etc. then to open the file in Notepad. Hi Joe, that might be part of your problem. The Program Files directory has some access restrictions that can cause problems with many FSX addons. The best solution is to install FSX in a different folder (like C:\FSX). However, I understand that a reinstall is not one of the popular solutions (it would take me a week to complete, I guess), so the alternative solution is: - use the windows 8 search feature and search for Notepad - right-click on Notepad - select "run as administrator" - in Notepad, open the file you need to edit In my experience, this enables you to save edits to a file. Cheers, Peter

Excellent!! Thank you Peter! I will try that out when I can... Very neat trick, would be nice to see if that works... Thanks for your help and I will let you know how it works out... Yet in the mean time, I have been building up the time in the DC-8's on my legs; can't complain about flying my "8's"..lol Joe

Wouldn't "flying an 8" be similar to flying an infinite Möbius loop?
