Thanks Peter. I started the install. Now have a number of FSC shortcuts on Desktop. Then I get a message "FSCaptain cannot build the Airport database" ! Mike

Hmmm. A couple of quick tests: 1) Confirm that you have a file MakeRwys.exe installed in the main directory of FSX 2) Start the Administrator, go to "Profiles and Settings", and confirm that "Run Make Runways as part of Rebuild" is checked. Then click on "Rebuild Airport Database". 3) If the problem persists, please send us (see blue link below) the Installer_2022**_**.log files in your FSCaptain/bin/ folder. They will tell us more about what happens.

Hi Peter, Havnt got to the log files yet but I am seeing 'MRroot directory not found'. Make Runways is definitely in the root directory. I have run it from there but am getting same result. As you are going away dont be concerned about this until you get back - in fact trying to sort things like this is helping me to immerse myself in figuring out how FSC hangs together. I have a few other issues also - eg I think the Beechcraft Baron in FSC is the default Baron so when I try to add the FCDU nothing happens to my Caranado Baron. BUT as I said teething troubles really are not a big deal for now. Mike

Hi Mike,
#1. I thought I had this working, but I'm apparently wrong...
Open your profile.cfg file in a text editor. (Do not ever share that file with anyone....)
Look for a few entries near the top of the file:
FSROOT=F:\MyFSX\ SOROOT=F:\MyFSX\
The values of these two should be identical to your simulator's installation folder.
Copy and paste one of those lines back into your profile.cfg file and edit it so it reads similar to the other two - with the same value of course:
MRROOT=F:\MyFSX\ -------------
#2. Ensure that you have the shortcuts to the FSCaptain Administrator, to FCDU.EXE and to Installer.EXE checked so all three run "as Administrator". This is necessary so they have all of the necessary permissions to read and write files.
Btw, any shortcut you have to your FSX should also have run "as Administrator" checked. -------------
Please send me all of the files in your FSCaptain\Data\Logs folder so I can see what happened in regards to Issue 1. -------------
Finally, I've eaten something (cantaloupe?) last night that's giving me a substantial fever, so expect some slow / no responses for a day or so.
Best,

BUT as I said teething troubles really are not a big deal for now. Mike, gauges apply to a single aircraft, so you would have to install an FCDU into multiple Barons. If you're able to run in non-full screen, I would suggest working with the FCDU.EXE to start with. It works with every aircraft, but you will need to have the simulator in non-full screen. But if you would greatly prefer to run in full screen, then gauges are the way to go. Best,

Thanks Travis, Lots of (good) things are happening now. MRROOTin my profile was pointing to F: Drive ! I sorted that and applied Admin permissions as you recommended. I was prompted to run MakeRways which I did. FSCaptain Scenery Scanner then sprung into action. Now things are looking good. Will leave you in peace to recouperate, Thanks again, Mike

Hi Mike, That sounds like some progress at least. I'm off my feet for a week or so, but I can still access the forum. So if you have any general questions I can do my best to answer. It's sort of boring at times. Best,

Hi Travis, You dont sound too good. 'Some progress' has turned into a lot of progress. The changes you suggested before are all done and everything is working as it should (as far as I can tell). I have now registered and have had 3 good flights - 2 ex EGJJ plus 1 EGPN to EGPE - all using PROATCX for FP and ATC. I have created a new airline using Air Ecosse as a framework (called 'Pondok Charter') with a base at EGPE. Am 'employed' by them now. Am currently researching Nodes but havnt set them up yet. Will keep you informed - get well soon. Mike

Agree 100% Eugene. It's certainly been a massive help for me in starting to get my mind around FSCaptain. Mike

Thank you for your kind words, Eugene and Wombat32, I am very happy that you feel that way. I joined the FSCaptain team out of passion for the program, and that never changed. And yet, my passion pales in comparison what Travis and Dutch have put into FSCaptain Cheers, Peter

Hi Peter, hope your holiday/trip went well. Lots of progress this last week. New airline set up (Pondok Charter) out of EGPE. Nodes (12) all setup and working well. Several successful flights. Although my Caranado Baron 58 is flying OK I stll have a feeling that I havnt set up it up quite right. Will investigate further but I may have to ask a question on that subject. Do you think that now I am up and running I should raise any future issues as separate threads rather than staying with this thread ? Mike

Hello Mike, I am just getting out of jet lag Great to hear you are making excellent progress. You can continue to post in this thread, unless you feel that your question would be of general interest. In that case, opening a new thread with a specific topic would make it easier for others to find the discussion. Regarding the B58: setting up an airplane perfectly in FSCaptain is a bit of an art. We have probably helped hundreds of users with their configuration files, so if you think something is not quite right, feel free to ask. Cheers, Peter

Hi Peter, With the help of yourself and Travis, to a degree at least I am now up and running. So I think it would probably be best if from now on I raise future issues in separate threads within the Support forum. Whilst this thread might be a useful read for others like me who are starting out in FSCaptain I don’t think it would be all that helpful for anyone searching in the future for answers to specific ‘operational’ type issues. I am certainly not short of questions so I will be posting soon, Mike
