Captains,
Public Beta 5 for version 1.8.0 is now available for download and testing!
This is a recommended update, especially for Captains using earlier Beta versions.
The biggest change in Beta 5 is to address some CTDs that could occur from both the Admin DLL and the FSCAI DLL.
(Even if you're still using version 1.7.4, I could still recommend testing Beta 6 as there have been a lot of improvements in the past seven months days.)
Our plans are to move to Beta 6 by November 2nd / 3rd an official release of 1.8.0 within 14 days. The primary factor in that timeline is the reports we receive from you.
With all that said, here comes the usual testing guidance, followed by the change lists, then the download links.
Each Installer download has an obvious README file (README-9 for FS9 and README-32 & -64 for the SimConnect versions), but also a READ ME BEFORE INSTALLING file. This file is customized for each Installer... mentioning items which may be new to your installation.
It also preaches the need to FULLY BACKUP any current FSCaptain installation before installing. Backups are super easy - open Windows Explorer copy your \FSCaptain\ folder to somewhere safe (I copy to my desktop), and voila - you've made a safe backup!
Testing Notes on Changed Items
- When in the Administrator and you change airlines (or pilots), all of the new history will be populated across various dialogs.
- For the SimConnect 64 installer, the Administrator should detect aircraft installed using the Lockheed Martin scheme for distributed installations.
- For the SimConnect 64 installer, the FCDU Installer should detect aircraft installed using the Lockheed Martin scheme for distributed installations.
- A revised system of referring to SimObjects from missions is now in place.
- Missions can once again start and end on an aircraft carrier.
Testing Notes on Bugs
- A possible source of crashes of the FSCaptain.DLL and the FSCAI.DLL has been patched.
- Some "pickup" or "turnaround" flights can have some of their data corrupted - leaving Captains with 'impossible Block Times' and other items.
To test what we hope is a possible bug fix, add the following line to your OPTIONS.CFG file:
SAFE_TURNAROUNDS=1
Testing Notes on Interface Changes
- Added Brake Temperature reporting for the QW 787. (Untested.)
- Updated the Aerosoft CRJ interface to support a wider cast for Nav and Landing/Taxi lights.
- Updated the PMDG DC-6A (cargo) interface to support a passenger door for jumpseaters.
Here are the download links. First decide if you want a new Full installation, or if you're currently an FSCaptain... a Fixpack installation.
Then select the installer for your simulator - either FS9, or 32- or 64-bit SimConnect.
When you have your download, unzip it and read the README files, then install.
Happy Flying with ACME!
