manierim, You win the First Golden Bug Finder Award of 2014! I can now reproduce this issue at will and I can offer a guarantee that it will be fixed in the next build. (And yes, I did email Dutch, so even if that rogue comet hits me now....)

Hi All, I installed the demo of FSCaptain 1.5 to try it out, and I am very exciting about purchasing it. The only thing that is holding me back is this issue you are all having. I want to use FSCaptain along with OPUS but FSCaptain always stops working as soon as I click on 'Weather Options'. I have already tried most of the things you are suggesting here with no luck. Please!, Get this resolved so I can finally buy this product. Thank you.

Dutch is working on a few fixes to roll out ASAP.
For you (for now) just use a text editor to make these changes to your \FSCaptain\Config\profile.cfg file:
METARTYPE=Opus METARDATA=C:\OpusFSX\Themes\OpusWeather.txt
Just change the value of METARDATA to point to wherever you have installed Opus.

Just wanted to say I had the same problem. I use ASN as my weather engine and I had to edit the external file to the following to fix the problem.
;ActiveSky 2012,%appdata%\HiFi\AS2012\Weather\current_wx_snapshot.txt,AS2012,0 ;ActiveSky 6.5,%fs%\Modules\ASv6\current_wx_snapshot.txt,ASV6,0 ;ActiveSky Evolution,%appdata%\HiFi\ASE\Weather\current_wx_snapshot.txt,ASE,0 ActiveSky Next,%appdata%\HiFi\ASNFSX\Weather\current_wx_snapshot.txt,ASE,0 ;FS Global Real Wx,%programfiles%\FSGRW\data\exchange\common\current_weathercomplete.txt,FSGRW,0 ;FS Real Wx,(enter pathname to FSRealWx METAR file here),FSRealWX,0 ;Opus,%programfiles%\OpusFSX\Themes\OpusWeather.txt,Opus,0 ;Real Environment Extreme,C:\REX\METAR,REX,1 REX Essential Plus,G:\REX Essential Plus\MetarXML\metar_report.xml,REXe,0 <-- Same here
Now I can use weather option without CTD.

Have just downloaded the demo to try it out and had this problem also..I use ActiveSky Next
Deleting all the other entries in Externals.cfg had no effect, however these two lines in profile.cfg worked a treat.
METARTYPE=ActiveSky Next METARDATA=C:\Users\PC\AppData\Roaming\Hifi\ASNFSX\Weather\current_wx_snapshot.txt

Ahhhh... I've manually edited my profile.cfg as per previuso post: METARTYPE=Opus METARDATA=E:\OpusFSX\Themes\OpusWeather.txt METARFORMAT=2 METARSOURCE=0 METARSHOW=1 METARSTALE=2 HAZARDICE=1 HAZARDRWY=1 HAZARDCB=1 HAZARDDEICE=1 And now no more CTD! Fine! It works for me too. Hovever I use Aktive Sky Next. My profile.cfg looks like that: METARTYPE=ACE METARDATA=%appdata%\HiFi\ASNFSX\Weather\current_wx_snapshot.txt METARFORMAT=2 METARSOURCE=0 METARSHOW=1 METARSTALE=2 HAZARDICE=1 HAZARDRWY=1 HAZARDCB=1 HAZARDDEICE=1

Have just downloaded the demo to try it out and had this problem also..I use ActiveSky Next Deleting all the other entries in Externals.cfg had no effect, however these two lines in profile.cfg worked a treat. METARTYPE=ActiveSky Next METARDATA=C:\Users\PC\AppData\Roaming\Hifi\ASNFSX\Weather\current_wx_snapshot.txt This is spot on ! There is no data in the profile.cfg for the metar path. I use REX for FS2004, and the path is: METARTYPE=Real Environment Extreme METARDATA=C:\Program Files (x86)\Real Environment Xtreme FS2004\Metar\20140404_19z.txt ... where the *.txt file at the end, is any txt file that is in the metar folder. Ensure you have at least downloaded one metar using the weather program. There really should be a point in the install where you are asked where your weather folder is (!!!) - Lol ! Once that info is added to the "MetarType=" and "MetarData=" fields in the profile.cfg file, the weather option button opens up the dialogue box, where it THEN asks you for the path to the metar folder (!!!) - at which point, further config can be carried out. Do NOT touch the externals.cfg file. Hope this clears it up once and for all.

If you just started to use FSCaptain, simply try to reinstall it. Alternatively, have a look at the FSCaptain log file in the Data\Logs subdirectory.
Are you launching the administrator from within FSX?
Cheers, Peter
