NOTE: There is now a section in the User's Guide that explains this in even more detail, but I'm leaving this here for the convenience of pilots seeking the information.
The newest release of FSCaptain contains the ability to save a flight and restore it. Here's how to use it.
FSX
Every time you save a flight using FSX (after you have started your FSCaptain flight) the FCDU/FCOM will save the FSCaptain data in the folder FSCaptain\Data\Saves.
To save a flight with FSX, press the semicolon key or use the 'Save...' menu selection from the 'Flights' menu. A dialog will appear and you'll type in or select a name for your save file. This is all standard FSX stuff. Simply save your flight -- but do not check the option 'make this the default flight' because if you do FSX will change the date and time when you load it later. At the same time as FSX saves your flight FSCaptain will create its own save file. For example if you are flying the 737-800 for Landmark it will create a file named FSCaptain\Data\Saves\Landmark_B738.sav.
Restore Procedure:
When FSX comes up again click on the 'Load' button, or if you are in the sim go to the FSX 'Flights' menu and select the 'Load...' menu item. Find the name under which you saved your flight and click on it then click on 'Fly Now'. When the cockpit appears and you are flying again, press the P key to pause the sim.
Be sure that the lights, altimeter and other controls are reset properly for the situation, so that when we restore and restart FSCaptain you don't get a penalty.
While the sim is still paused bring up the FCDU or FCOM using control-shift-6 or the normal shift-key combination you use to get to the gauge in that airplane. Click on the power button and the login page will appear.
FCDU: Click on the MENU key. The option to RESTORE should be available on the upper right. Click on right line select key 2 (RSK2). The display should change to the page that was active at the time you saved your flight.
FCOM: On the login page you'll see a new option "F4=Restore". Click on the F4 key. The display should change to the page that was active at the time you saved your flight.
Un-pause FSX and continue your flight!
Using the FSUIPC auto-save facility
If you have a registered copy of FSUIPC you can automate the save process. In the sim select FSUIPC from the 'Add-Ons' menu. On the FSUIPC control dialog, click on the tab 'AutoSave/GSPout' which is usually on the right side. Check 'Check to enable Auto-Save'. Select an interval - I use 120 seconds. I change 'How Many to Keep' to 1 so I don't have to figure which one will match my FSCaptain save. I also check 'Save Whilst on Ground?'. Click OK.
Now every so many seconds FSUIPC will create an FSX save file automatically and FSCaptain will create a matching save file.
To restore this automatic save, use the above restore procedure but look for a file named 'AutoSave Mon 220501 (Saved by FSUIPC4)'. The day and time will be different in your case of course but it starts with 'AutoSave'. If you keep multiple copies, probably the most recent one is the one that matches your FSCaptain save.
FS9
In the current version FSCaptain doesn't save itself when you save a flight using the FS9 menu, so you'll need to do a two-step process.
1. Pause your flight using the P key.
2. Save your flight using the semi-colon key (or 'save' from the 'flights' menu) to a name you can remember like 'FSCaptain Save'.
3. Press MENU on the FCDU and then click on the SAVE> option on the upper right (RSK1). If you are using the FCOM, be at the Flight Status page (ID 23) and click on the F9 key (Save/Cancel) then on the page that appears use the F7 key to save the flight.
4. Unpause and resume flying.
You'll restore your save exactly as described in the FSX section above.
FSUIPC has an auto-save capability but in this version FSCaptain will not see it doing that so you'll need to rely on manual saves. Work is underway to see if we can get FS9 to intercept a save operation as well as FSX.
