An email just went out to MSFS-interested Captains to alert them to an early test download later this week. If you haven't received this email but want it, then email me at my not-so-secret email address that you can deduce from clicking the link in my .signature file. Best,

Thanks all!
I've come up short of sleep for the past few nights and I've a tweak or two to some things that I want to ensure are goof-free. (And I'm potentially the biggest goof around....)
So please expect the next email to arrive on my Thursday afternoon.
Best,

I've been really under the weather this past week, so progress is slow.
I hope to have Beta 2 released to MSFS testers and to public testers any day now. ---------
I cannot judge your CPU, but I would offer that your video card lacks enough RAM. If it's the GeForce 250 that I'm thinking of, isn't it nearly as old as FSX?
Best,

It is the GeForce 250. Looking to upgrade to GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Phoenix Fan Edition.

I tried MSFS first about 1.5 years ago on my old system, which was about 10 years old and had an i3 processor and a GTX 1070. Performance of MSFS was marginal back then: I could run it, but I had to disable clouds and use the lowest graphics settings. It looked better than P3D, but not as dramatically as it does with medium to high settings. Since back then, Asobo has done a lot to optimize MSFS, but my guess would be that MSFS won't run great on your system, even with the 1050 Ti in it.
Having said that, you could get an X-Box game pass for $1/month (for the first three month). That pass includes the MSFS Standard version, so you could try it out for a small fee.

Peter Thanks for the tip. I will try it. On the 250 I run FSX with everything set to ultra high and still get 40+ fps. Although, it angers me when that when I land I don't get a jetway, the aircrafts on each side of me have jetways, but I rarely get one. Must be some setting I am missing.

Although, it angers me when that when I land I don't get a jetway, the aircrafts on each side of me have jetways, but I rarely get one. Must be some setting I am missing. If you're talking about the default ATC, there is no such setting. Default ATC will take you to where it wants you to go - no ifs, ands or buts.... Around 2010 or so, I gave up on using the default ATC for a majority of things. It's useless for parking, very annoying for enroute flying, and a real PITA when it comes to approach handing. When I fly, I choose my own parking spot in advance and I either rely on ground charts to guide myself there, or I might call on GSX's Follow Me to help me there. If you use your FSCaptain Administrator to Dispatch your flights, its "Destination Parking" dropdown will allow you to select your own parking spot... and starting with FSCaptain 1.8.2, that dropdown will signify which parking locations have jetways. ---- I use a payware ATC add-on - ProATC/X - for when I want to fly with ATC. It also allows you to specify your destination parking location, but it's guidance is like FSCaptain's... direction and distance. I also use a payware "charts" add-on named AivlaSoft EFB. It will give you a ground chart to help you in finding your parking location. There is a freeware "charts" add-on named Little Navmap which does the same. There used to be a freeware "follow me" add-on (I think it was named "FollowMe2") that I tried many years ago. I do not know if it's still available. Hope this helps somewhat....

Got the subscription. Had to upgrade the graphics card from gtx 250 to gtx 1050 with 4gb. My computer already has 20gb of ram. MSFS did not run at all on the 250. Came right up on the 1050. The opening screens are impressive. Just going through a 123GB download. So far so good.

Thanks!! helps greatly. Little Navmap is very nice and it generates the weather too so thats a plus. I used it the parking spot. The live map feature is something FSX should have integrated in its own app, it also shows you when to begin your descent. FSX ATC is too much unrelated noise. And they just keep changing centers numerous times. Looking at getting ProATC, I think the copilot support will be interesting.

Looking at getting ProATC, I think the copilot support will be interesting. I have just today learned that development on ProATC/X may have stopped, so be advised about that. I've also learned that a new ATC substitute for P3D4/5 (and possibly MSFS) is in early days. I may post more once I learn more beyond its name.... Best,
