I don't think anything changes. Whatever works in v4 right now, will work as is in v5.
The fundamental difference between the two versions is the way CPU/GPU handles the rendering, as we disussed in another post here. Problem is that "is the first step...", so other versions will follow...

Hi Guys,
we haven't had our hands yet on P3D 5, so too early to promise anything. However, Dutch is cautiously optimistic that FSCaptain will be available for P3D 5.0 as well.
Cheers, Peter

I'm optimistic as well. I think anything that works in v4.5 will work in v5 and looking through the release notes, there are some very cool new features, especially for multi-player.

Hi all,
We don't know for certain until we try it, but as Peter says above I'm cautiously optimistic that FSCAI will work with 5.0 just like it does with 4.5.
If not, we'll figure out what's incompatible and fix it.

Improvement in performance regarding FPS is dramatic, as shown in this article : fselite.net/uncategorised/fsdt-kord-v2-fps-between-v4-5-and-v5/ And on top of that, P3D v5 has volumetric clouds at the environment while rendering... About compatibility with P3Dv4, seems minor adjustments are of need for planes & sceneries. Compared to MSFS2020, it lacks the advanced plane flight models, the interaction of planes with atmosphere/surrounding airmass, as also the photorealistic virtual environment. On the other hand, P3D owns this extensive Scenario/Mission system with advanced scripts usefull for real training or just flying adventures that I'm very keen of. Hopefully, FS2020 will reach also there at some point. For starters just few training missions.

FSCaptain makes heavy use of the SDK (Software Development Kit) of FSX/P3D, in particular of Simconnect. We know that P3D 5.0 will have an SDK and that it will be similar to that of P3D 4.5. Hence, if no major changes have been made to the SDK, it is quite possible that FSCaptain would work with P3D 5 without any changes. If changes have been made that affect FSCaptain, it is quite possible that FSCaptain can be modified to work with it. That's the reason for our optimism, but we'll have to wait until April 14 to know that for sure.
MSFS 2020 is different: it is a completely new development and we know nothing about an SDK that may be available for it. If it has an SDK, then FSCaptain will likely be adapted to work with MSFS 2020. However, no promises can be made right now: the absence of a suitable SDK is the main reason why FSCaptain does not work with XP11.

(New to the forum - first post)
Hi,
With a new laptop in hand I decided to move over to P3D v5 and loaded up FSCAI just to see if it would work (understand it's not supported at this point in time). Anyway, it didn't! I managed to get it to load up by creating the P3D v4 directory it was looking for and also editing the path to FSCAI.dll in the dll.xlm file but it can't connect to P3D
Just wondering if there and any plans to produce a build/patch that allows it to load in P3D v5. If there are any tweaks worth trying or any test builds, I'm happy to give it a try (I used to be a software tester).
My other laptop has P3D v4.5 installed and FSCAI installs correctly but I have a problem opening up SimDirector - it hangs when loading scenery.
Thanks Al

Hi AL,
The next release of FSCAI will be fully compatible with V5. I'm hard at work on it and it'll be ready when it's ready.

As a temporary measure I'm going to install v4.5 on another drive on this laptop ( hopefully without the SimDirector problem I had) and give it a try. If I can just get it shooting a bit of flak I'll be happy. Al

Just FYI, there's much, much more going into the next release than just V5 compatibility. It will be released as a major upgrade, the "Fourth Edition" of FSCAI.
