I have had nothing but favorable thoughts about this software. I'm a fairly new developer of SimObjects, but I've retired from a 20 year career in IT as a software developer/architect. Before that I retired as a military aviator (with combat experience - back seater B-52). Hat's off to Dutch and anyone helping him evolve this wonderful application. This software breathes life into FSX@War and gives a previously non-existent threat capabilities to FSX and P3D. I've read over the forum and I don't want to be long winded. I've flown several sorties using different aircraft in the Southeast Asia Theater. It used to be boring with just FSX@War...but Tacpack did offer a SAM. The problem with SAMs is unless your a flight doing IRON HAND or Wild Weasel missions, generally air to mud guys prefer to avoid SAMs. Especially these days, the technology has advanced so much. In my time I got to see a live SA-10 signal once (seen plenty of SA-2/3/6 through electronic windows) and I remember thinking I don't want to ever see that again. Unfortunately, AAA kills like the sign up on the wall at the USAF Weapons School wall says...this is FSCAI's strong suit.
I flew the RA-5C on a photo run to get a look at the target, Ho Chi Minh Trail Camp 2,
I've flown three strikes against this target, once with an F-8 and two with the F-100.
Below, the wingman is from AI Tracker not FSCAI...
I know I got shot at on every sortie, I could see some flak and tracers. I turned on object ids and could literally see the shells coming my way. I heard and felt some hits but had no systems failures and was able to RTB without incident. I wish the weapons effects were better as a Mk-82SE would do a lot more damage. I kept the airspeed up and basically did the tactics I know the guys flying these types of aircraft would do. Which tells me that a gun jink works against AAA AI.
Finally, I tried some of the AI wingmen on the last F-100 mission. I added them after take off. Initially they stayed in the general area I was in. And I was somewhat bummed that my wingmen weren't configured as my aircraft was (snake and nape) and after takeoff they went all over the place. I think that's because I didn't do some configuration work beforehand, but I don't know. Would like to know about that one. And I held a steady heading, altitude, and airspeed enroute to the target. None of the commands I sent via the menu had much effect other than trail. My #2 followed me at about a mile...for a while, then went his merry way. I tried to direct the flight onto a target but my #2 (the only one that seemed to "listen") saying that they couldn't find the target. I wanted to scream into the mike, "That's because your 12 miles away drilling holes in the skies of Laos you stupid..."...Sorry, I'm a stickler for formation discipline . And as a software developer, I don't like AI that doesn't behave.
The resulting Box score: 1 truck and two AAA guns destroyed. Not very good, but considering I've not strapped on bomber for over 27 years...
I'll keep at this campaign and see if I can improve and perhaps learn more about the features of this awesome app.
