This morning, I get up 1hr earlier to set for a 11hr cross Pacific route from KSFO to RJCC fight, before heading to work and plan to went back and land it.
BTW i set this route to try QSimPlanner's PACOTS (corss pacific) route finding, it works fantastic and can earily export to sim and some addons, also with wind aloft and quite accurate fuel calculation (at least for 748F), I already done a flight planned with it form RJBB to KDFW. and this is sort of "return flight". Nice little freeware, highly recommended!
Load giving by FSC is 88 ton, with almost 130ton of fuel, it gives me 414.7 tonnes of TOW.
QSim also had take off caucalator, it shows me 01R is too shrot for Take off, so the options are 28L or R with wind at 257/17kts, obviously the longer 28R. But Qsim doesn't count obstacle limitation, you may know there is a nice hill right in front of runwy 28, so... I choose flaps 10 for better climb and full thrust rather than calculated 46C Assumed Temp.
I taxi out from NW corner of SFO at PLOT50, follow Z U and C all the way form near 10L to 28R, crossing two operating runway. Yes, with Xwind technique, both 28 and 01 are operational simultaneously, BUT,in fact the P3D's own ATC AI couldn't handle it.
With 414.7tonnes of weight, take off speed is astonishing 158/74/89, I star rolling with an aircraft just been issued a landing clearance (business as usually for FS's ATC), I crossed TWY P at 129KISA, looking and hearing if anything going wrong on RWY01s, lucky so far so good, crossing runway clear, I notice an Airbus is sneaking form D, heading my runway. By the time I cross 01L/19R I'm already 148KIAS, and still thinking it will stop at the edge of RWY.
But it didn't, with less than 1800ft I start an early rotation ay 159KIAS, lift off at 169k with distance only 388ft,probably tail strike with 12degree of pitch. Over it's head at only 38 feet ASL, that's 25 feet AFE.
Thanks to FSC, I can't just walk out with nothing (or explode immediately like I had "collision with AI" checked on), ENG4 just quit, so a single engine failure, ok cool, I can handle it, even with early rotation and climbing at 180KIAS, less than V2 needed.
Gear up, rudder pushed, runway heading and climb to level-off alt of 1300' I noticed my ENG1 is only at 85% of N1 rather than 100.5% . OK, that NOT cool.
With some busy "checking and diagnosing" (AKA: shocking reaction) I actually level-off at 1700', FLCH, Bug Up and AP on to unload my self to do some F/O's work. BUT, with ENG1 bleeding out, so does my speed.
At 167KIAS, stall, and AP quit to work,I lower the nose but not too aggressively, GET a 500~700 decent rate, with just at the margin of stall.
OK, GREAT, with only 2 inboard engines, I can't even hold my alt, now I had only 3 minute before ditching.
While I can head down more to gain speed, since I've already clear the hill while ENG1 was still working. There is really no room for error, If I cant gain extra 30kts with 1000feet of drop, It probably won't improve my climbing performance enough, only to shorten my thinking time, So I reach the OVHD panel and reach the fuel dump nozzle by memory, hope it could work, But hell, EICAS shows that fuel dump nozzle B is INOP.
While struggling to control this 400 tonne half glider near stall speed. I managed to switch to nozzle A and it did work! No I had time to check the engine, FMS of 748 already noticed an engine failure, and selected CON thrust for me, but it's not enough, so I tried reselect the G/A and T/O thrust, but they really didn't move N1 up by much.
So, I think it might be time of ditching, with no any time to do procedure, if there is any. lucky, there is all open water and still near shore, I roll slighly to left to be parallel to cost.
Then I realize, the FMC N1 refrence is not actually limite, I can still firewall the engine, so I tried it, N1 up to 100, and I start climb again from 600feet. fly along the cost , I cross the Golden Gate just over 1000 feet, What a geart view! oh, with fuel dumping... sorry.
Hoping the remining engines not detonate any soon, I starting wondering around in the bay and looking for a land site, back to SFO? I guess it's still a chaos with all that traffic and Xwind runway, so I opend up APT on ND to find any, Then I notice KOAK, it's near, and a quick search on navigraph chart, it has a runway long enought.
Now my speed is back to 200, but I still keep Flaps10 since I'll landing soon, and not sure if it still working, the last thing I want is an flaps asymmetric. BTW the ATC quite working with "NO ELEC" on the P3D's ATC window, fortunately ELEC system seems all good on this tough 748 addon, So I just set 7700 and let ATC to panic out, It's all your fault, anyway....
With some visual maneuvering , heading the runway with tail wind, and an AI climb out over my head, Fuel dump off, and Gear down, thankfully. But that gear makes my unable to keep level flight even with full power, so no go-around.
Touchdown at near 900FPM and 1.7G, the aircraft might be discard, and 200KTS speed didn't help the brakes and tires too.
While no fire indication in cockpit, the ENG1 shows fire on external view, so a quick EVEC checklist, Get out of this S**t alive.
With 15min airborne time, It's not that longer than if I climb to TOC and head to work. So, great, not a single bad outcome at all.
btw: the tacview record is such a powerfull tool to help me to report this event
