FSX is "dead" for quite some years now... But since the last 2-3 weeks with these new capable of dogfighting AIs, it feels - to me at least - like a combat simulator under labor... About that time and wishing to fly second generation jets mainly, I was checking what Strike Fighters 2 has to offer - a combat sim just to the point for 2nd gen jets. I've read that is a good balance between arcade and flight simming, so I watched quite some SF2 youtube videos. Apart of the voice overs (sound files) during fight/flight that really create a "warm" feeling, nothing else is superior to what I can have in FSX with FSCAI / FSX@WAR in Mission System or with ASL Assignments... Far better planes & environment and Air/Ground combat similar if not superior in FS. Functional carriers also. FPS are probably better there, though. So, the comparison of this : with this : turns the balance quite to the right I think - without having actually flown SF2 though ... :

Voice - and increasingly better sound overall - is something I'm eager to get to.
It's the very next thing once we get the radar environment nailed down.
Everything you currently see displayed in text messages - and much more - will be spoken eventually.

Please don´t forget the A2G-side of FSCAI. I usually fly the A10, so that´s the natural mission for me - I try to avoid A2A, but BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRT anything on the ground.

HAJO, thank you. I have pretty much given up on air to air combat myself. I won’t go into all the reasons, but suffice it to say that air to ground is about all I will be using it for.(And vintage at that)

Personal preference is just that, personal. FSCAI A2G mode works more effectively & flawlesly than A2A mode at the moment. So, I don't understand what exactly you have in mind to be fixed / corrected in A2G without you guys being more specific about this.
Also, there will definitely be people that will want to do A2G attacks with hostile AIs after them. So FSCAI can't be restricted to just A2G AI functionalities.

It is not FSCAI that has driven me away from Air to Air combat and I apologize if my post sounded that way. Actually I haven't tried it in that fashion yet. I AM one of those who want working hostile AI as well as fighter escorts.

Yeah, A2A is cool, I just don´t wanted to see A2G get sidelined.
What I have in mind is a more reliable team-assignation of ground units (too often I have vehicles beeing in the "wrong" team) and I would love to have a manual option, where I can manually change their team-assignation "in-game" or even turn them "off".

Yeah, I know what you mean. I was playing around with a Vietnam scenario the other day and my fighter escort shot me down. I had to keep them ahead of me at all times. If I got in front of them I was toast.

If I got in front of them I was toast. A. This happens to me also, everytime that I'm airborn and then run FSCAI. On the other hand. If I'm grounded (or on carrier) and run FSCAI, never happens. Don't start running FSCAI when airborn. B. Second rule for proper non Airplane simobjects Team assignment : closest airport. If closest airport to some enemy simobjects (non Airplane), is declared in friendly Team in Teams file, they will be assigned friendly. Despite the fact you have declared them by Title in enemy Team. Solution is, you make with ADE a fake airport, giving just the co-ordinates of airport's center near or at these few simobject hostile units, and activate in addon scenery library. Then run makerunways.exe, for this airport to be declared in FS Airports database (so that FSCAI knows about it). I have a folder named "My FSCAI Airports" in my Addon scenery folder, to place there such "fake" airports. By following these two basic roules of Teams assignment, I have never encountered problems thus far. I hope this helps.

If I got in front of them I was toast. For all of you guys that this happens to, could you post or send me the FSCAI log from when it happens? I haven't seen this but I'm sure it's a real bug and I think a log would help. You should already have the log in the FSCAI/Logs folder. Thanks! Dutch

I'll try to make it happen over the weekend. I have so many logs that I have no idea which it is.

Yesterday I took a sort of sight-seeing tour across the east central part of Vietnam, cruising from base to base close to the Cambodian border and along the Ho-Chi-Minh-trail. I´m not sure which scenery I have there, it propably is from the french vietnamwar.project.free.fr/, but I enjoyed multiple small bases, installations, airfields, you name it. And then it came to my mind that with these sceneries, with FSX@War and FSCAI I´m pretty close to something I´d always wanted to have: A complete Vietnam Air War-simulator! Doing some milk-run transport-mission? Just hop in my C-130 and avoid AAA and do daring short-runway landings. Experience "Low Level Hell" ( www.amazon.com/Low-Level-Hell-Hugh-Mills/dp/0891417192 )? My OH-6A has a forward mounted minigun and a side-firing M60-gunner that takes on ground targets. A strike-mission north of Hanoi? The F-111E I have is close enough to the original "A"s used then and its terrain following mode allows for super-fast attacks at tree-top level. Pick-up a crashed pilot behind enemy lines? The HH-53 come to rescue! Patrolling the shore-lines ( simviation.com/1/preview-popup?fileId=47740 ; Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club ships and traffic) for hostile junks? I have a nice old SP-5 Merlin, or fly the more modern P-3A Orion. FSCAI offers me the opportunity to have hostile ground units, I can put weapons on any of my aircraft, I even have wingmen and hostile fighters if I fly to far north. What is missing so far? I would love to have more AI-traffic flying around, so far it´s only a fraction and I´m too dumb to change the traffic.bgl for this region. FSX@War could also provide some more targets in the southern and central Vietnam area, so far it´s only a few VC-mainstays, but no parts of the continous insurgency that made large parts of South Vietnam hazardous if you went outside the cities and roads. If we´d also come up with some more FCDU-missions, including SpecOps-type sorties (dropping LRRPs behind enemy lines), adding milk-run-missions for C-130s or other cargo-flights and so on I´d be really grateful. But, as I wrote above: I think we´re very close to the "Airwar Vietnam"-experience that I have always been looking for. Thanks for providing me the tools for this! HAJo
