Hi,
After four years of flying FSCaptain I had my first emergency a couple of days ago, smoke in the cabin. Of course it didn't happen in Europe or North America but over the Andes on a flight from Lima to Sao Paulo. I always prepare for diversion on anything but a short haul flight and did so here too. I was flying an A320 and will admit I really missed the Boeing FMC fix page that I use to draw circles around the two closest diversion airports. I've had some malfunctions but never had to declare an emergency.
By the time I located the closest suitable alternate I already got a second warning from the cabin crew that things weren't getting any better. To make matters worse I was overweight and the A320 does not have a fuel dumping system. So my choice was an overweight landing or possibly face the same fate as Swissair 111 that went down over Peggy's Cove.
Long story short, I chose the overweight landing at SLVR, Santa Cruz - Bolivia which was only 150 nm from where I started the descent. Landing was normal and I ended up with 122 points.
Thought I'd share this story, it's one of the things that makes FSC special.

Hi Andre,
Thanks very much for sharing your adventure, as well as for your kind words.
It sounds as if you made the correct choices - congrats on what sounds like a successful emergency landing. (And they can be real nail-biters!)
Regards,

Hi Andre, that sounds like a challenge, Congratulations to mastering it! I am jealous of your 122 points, my maximum so far was 112 Peggy's Cove - you must be from the Maritimes Cheers, Peter (Nova Scotia)

No, been in Edmonton for almost 30 years. However Swissair 111 was close to my heart as I was born and raised in Switzerland.

Hi Andre,
yes, this was a horrible tragedy. I live in Nova Scotia and visited the memorial a few years ago.
