Captains,
We're finally ready to offer public access to FSCaptain Version 1.8.1 Beta 1.
It's gone through a few life-cycles of its own already, so we feel it's time. Originally intended as a bug-fix and support version (with an eye to the Early Adopter features of 1.8.0), in early days we were improving support for FSL's A320 and nailing the last issue in the Prepar3D 4 SimObject file ecosystem. Then we began support for the updated Leonardo Maddog, and later started support for the Aerosoft DC-8.
In the 'down times' we were able to fix a few bugs - some sound related, and some behind-the-scenes items.
In the past few weeks, a CTD which was always reproducible for one Captain stopped our work until we could isolate the responsible area of code.
So it's time to release our latest bug-fixed version.
-----
One new feature does debut in 1.8.1 in order to fix a problem....
Over the past 10-12 months, some AI packages (some freeware, some not) have used 'aircraft.cfg' files instead of 'sim.cfg' files - we have always treated them separately - so we devised a workaround... a list of "No Scan Folders" that uses simple folder-name matching to exclude SimObject folders as not in need of being scanned.
Check your User's Guide for details. You can also open \FSCaptain\Config\no_scan_folders.txt and read the description therein for details.
-----
Each Installer download has an obvious README file (README-9 for FS9 and README-32 & -64 for the SimConnect versions), but also a READ ME BEFORE INSTALLING file. This file is customized for each Installer... mentioning items which may be new to your installation.
It also expounds on the need to FULLY BACKUP any current FSCaptain installation before installing!! It doesn't cost more than a few seconds of CPU and drive access time... but it could save your career in the meantime!
If you're not a Captain now, or if you wish to test this with a clean slate, you would choose a Full Installer package from below.
If you're an experienced Captain and want to see what the latest version has to offer, you would choose a Fixpack Installer package below.
-----
Please know, there may be some mistakes or gaps in these builds. If any of you spot something that doesn't work remotely close to what you expect, please consult the "What to do" area of your READ ME to be able to give us the details we would need to diagnose.
With all that said, please find and download the Installer for your simulator, read through the READ ME and the README files... make your backups... then install & test FSCaptain 1.8.1 Beta 1.
With best regards,
--Your FSCaptain Team
