It's come to our attention that some versions of the FSCAI.DLL and FSCCAI.EXE programs which were built for (and were initially distributed in recent versions of) FSCaptain have been re-distributed outside of the FSCaptain environment.
While this works, sort of, technically, the version of FSCAI distributed with FSCaptain is named FSCCAI and is a modified version. It's not intended to be run outside the FSCaptain environment - some of what it does is not communicated to the pilot, but sent to FSCaptain to be handled. This means, for instance, that user aircraft damage and sounds are missing or incorrect when FSCCAI is run by itself.
Anyone who's using this extracted version is strongly encouraged to download one of the standalone versions here and use that, if what you're interested in is the FSCAI program without FSCaptain. At the end of the beta period for FSCaptain (which could be as soon as tomorrow 23-NOV-2017) the version named FSCCAI that's distributed with FSCaptain will no longer work independently. If you have been using that version from the beta code get rid of it and use the one in the download message on this forum. There's no reason not to do this, it will work better for you, is much easier to install, and will be updated to have the same functionality as the one in FSCaptain for the full development cycle until release.
We have worked with the developers of FSX@War over the past year in developing FSCAI and we are happy to see a swell of interest in our work. All we ask for the near future is that everyone respect our work and understand that it has only been released now as an Early Adopter preview both standing alone and as a part of FScaptain 1.8; there will be changes in its operation... including its controlling files.
Speaking for Systems Unlimited, I own copyright on both programs as well as on all other components of FSCaptain itself.
Systems Unlimited will vigorously pursue action on any person, persons, entity or entities who attempt to claim any control, ownership or copyright on our components and products. With that said, we are not aware of anyone currently doing or contemplating such. Nor are we aware of any infringement on our rights.
Please also know that FSCAI will form the core of a new licensed offshoot of FSCaptain which will allow "Action-only" flights for those who do not care for the Air Transport Pilot side of FSCaptain. It will also be available after its release in both a limited freeware version and a more enhanced and capable payware version.
