Captains,
Public Beta 4 for version 1.8.0 is now available for download and testing!
This is a recommended update, especially for Captains using Beta 1 through Beta 3.
The biggest change in Beta 4 is to finally address a CTD that could occur within P3D Version 4 and earlier. This should have been part of Beta 3, but because of a slip-up on my part it never made it.
We're also including some interface changes - an initial "test" interface for the QualityWings 787, plus some Autopilot interfaces for other third-party aircraft.
(Even if you're still using version 1.7.4, I could still recommend testing Beta 6 as there have been a lot of improvements in the past six months days.)
Our plans are to go to Beta 5 within 10 days, and to release 1.8.0 officially within 10 days from that. The primary factor in that timeline is the reports we receive from you.
With all that said, here comes the usual testing guidance, followed by the change lists, then the download links.
Each Installer download has an obvious README file (README-9 for FS9 and README-32 & -64 for the SimConnect versions), but also a READ ME BEFORE INSTALLING file. This file is customized for each Installer... mentioning items which may be new to your installation.
It also preaches the need to FULLY BACKUP any current FSCaptain installation before installing. Backups are super easy - open Windows Explorer copy your \FSCaptain\ folder to somewhere safe (I copy to my desktop), and voila - you've made a safe backup!
Testing Notes on Changed Items
- Extra logging has been added in spots.
- If I'll Be Back cannot be engaged at a certain time, codes will appear beside the label on the FCDU indicating the reason(s):
-A - The aircraft's autopilot is not engaged.
-E - You are not in the Enroute Phase of your flight (between Top of Climb and Top of Descent).
-K - You are below the Safe AGL Level (5000 ft) in order to have your FO take over.
Testing Notes on Bugs
- CTDs in Prepar3D due to over-checking for other SimObjects have hopefully now been addressed.
Testing Notes on Interface Changes
- There is a new (and possibly unfinished) interface for the QualityWings 787.
- Added Window Heat system to the Lionheart Quest Kodiak.
- Added autopilot interfaces for these aircrafts' interfaces to better support I'll Be Back:
-Aerosoft Airbus X
-Aerosoft Twin Otter Extended
-Flysimsoft Lear 35
-iFly 737 (Inop)
-iFly 747 (Inop)
-PMDG DC-6
-PMDG NGX
Here are the download links. First decide if you want a new Full installation, or if you're currently an FSCaptain... a Fixpack installation.
Then select the installer for your simulator - either FS9, or 32- or 64-bit SimConnect.
When you have your download, unzip it and read the README files, then install.
Happy Friday the Thirteenth, and Happy Flying with ACME!
