Captains,
Public Beta 3 for version 1.8.0 is now available for download and testing!
This is a recommended update, especially for Captains using Beta 1 and Beta 2. A problem was discovered soon after Beta 2's release which we hope have been corrected in this build.
The biggest change in Beta 3 is to address a CTD that could occur within P3D Version 4 and earlier. Other minor changes include new awards for on-time scheduled arrivals, and tightening up on fueling issues for Captains who prefer to start engines before loading.
(Even if you're still using version 1.7.4, I could still recommend testing Beta 3 as there have been a lot of improvements in the past six months.)
Our plans are to go to Beta 4 within two weeks, and to release 1.8.0 officially within two weeks after that. The primary factor in that timeline is the reports we receive from you.
With all that said, here comes the usual testing guidance, followed by the change lists, then the download links.
Each Installer download has an obvious README file (README-9 for FS9 and README-32 & -64 for the SimConnect versions), but also a READ ME BEFORE INSTALLING file. This file is customized for each Installer... mentioning items which may be new to your installation.
It also preaches the need to FULLY BACKUP any current FSCaptain installation before installing. Backups are super easy - open Windows Explorer copy your \FSCaptain\ folder to somewhere safe (I copy to my desktop), and voila - you've made a safe backup!
Testing Notes on Changed Items
- Awards are now available for Captains who choose to fly Scheduled Arrival flights with the Score Actual Arrival Time option checked for their airline.
- When the option MULTI_ENGINE_BIRD_FAILURE is set to 0 (the default setting), single-engine aircraft can no longer lose an engine because of birdstrike.
- Extra logging has been added in spots.
Testing Notes on Bugs
- CTDs in Prepar3D due to over-checking for other SimObjects have
hopefullynot all been addressed.
Post-Posting Edit: Not all of the instances of the error were caught. Beta 4 will release in a day or two with proper coverage.
Here are the download links. First decide if you want a new Full installation, or if you're currently an FSCaptain... a Fixpack installation.
Then select the installer for your simulator - either FS9, or 32- or 64-bit SimConnect.
When you have your download, unzip it and read the README files, then install.
Happy Flying with ACME!
