I am not an expert in this subject nor a real world airline pilot, but I've noticed seniority doesn't necessarily correlate with the air frame you fly (A321, B737s, some cargo airlines). I read pilots as young as 25-26 flying shotgun on these flights in a training capacity and in one case, a check ride before qual. It really depends on the flight school and the program. We have 21-24 year old AF Academy graduates getting trained to fly C-17s within a year of JSUPT. Age and experience alone will not keep you out of the cockpit, but in most scenarios I've seen, it was in a learning capacity flying a larger jet.
