FSCaptain 1.00.00 has basic support for VAs: the ability to transmit flight reports in the FSPassengers format to any VA that accepts reports from FSP.
I can envision far more that can be done. Right now it's a one way street: reports from the pilot to the VA. What about the other direction? FSCaptain fully supports scheduled operations. How about the VA keeping their schedule online and FSCaptain checking and automatically updating the local copy so that pilots for the airline are always flying the current schedule.
What about a system for insuring that the airline being flown has the correct policies by comparing them to a standard definition kept at the VA's headquarters before official flights could be made?
Even further afield...what about online dispatch services from the VA?
We do far more than just submitting flight reports.
With FSCaptain, you have a partner willing to listen and add enhancements that can really take advantage of the almost limitless capabilities the internet makes possible.
Ideas? I'm listening.

now, you are talking!! ;D I love FSPassengers, but that is my #1 complaint! is that a group can't use it together. I would love to see the ability for a VA to have the schedule and policies set in a file that when the pilots that belong to that VA would be able to login and then have it download the schedule and policies before they fly. If you can come up with something like that!! wow, that would be awesome!

I think FS Captain is currently the best base for a pilot ACARS system.
Im a member of Fly UK which is a large and busy UK based VA with global members.
My “ideas” would be..
For FS captain to easily replace or complement our existing “SkyTrack software” that simply pulls down booked flights and records the pilot actions. (Aircraft type, fuel usage, make sure they are at least near the destination airport etc.
If FS captain can expose what it already tracks to drive the live maps and maybe a flight board great.
Most importantly if FS Captain could check in to the VA website and get the “airline.cfg” so its consistent for all pilots. Next it could either maintain a local copy of our schedule, or even communicate with the website real time to get scheduled flights etc.
The “compelling” reason for me (and a VA) to use FS Captain as ACARS would be better simulation, and to track pilot performance. This could drive the current “Rank” systems and give a top ten flight scores for daily, monthly etc. as well as a landing rate table etc.
The best way I could see this working is maybe a “Free version” of FS Captain that everyone could use and this version only does the schedule, position tracking and basic checks like fuel management. Then VA members could purchase FS captain to unlock the Failures, Hazard Package, Landing Rates, Lights, First Office and all the “Good Stuff”
That would be great and drive sales I should think!

I'm using a program for Airhaul.net's VAs called kACARS where I fly for the Southwest division. Its apparently a free version of ACARS that does everything marty mentioned, but without the awesomeness of FSC. I think that would be freakin' amazing if FSC was to be used in place of the regular ACARS (and the like) systems. ACARS can't provide hazards and slick runways and such. I would personally promote it at my VA as best I could, because I notice that a lot of the pilots use FSPassengers, and I also have a copy of that, but gave up on it because I liked FSC's interface so much better. Constant window opening and closing in my FSX causes it to crash to desktop, so having a gauge in the plane was an A+ not to mention the AAA+++ service Dutch provides!
Anyways, I'm rambling. I should keep it at, I love this idea very much, and would attempt to support it, and I agree it would drive sales of FSC.

Hi Hero540,
Yes kACARS is one of the best ACARS ive seen because of all the info it tracks. Ive used it with EasyJet VA.
This is exactly what i would love. There would need to be a way for FS captain to have a free version with just pirep filing so the VA could standardize on it.

Marty, Dutch is away for a few days and would be the only oe whom could effectively comment on your suggestion. Don't take the lack of a response as anything other than "Dutch is busy with r/w stuff."

To be very honest, I'm quite impressed with Dutch's dedication to being online and providing customer service. Especially considering the "service" that FSC's main competitor, FSPassengers, seems to offer....
The only other person who comes close to Dutch's helpfulness and customer support would be "Slopey" the creator of Airhauler.
I own both of these programs as well...but I wish I had've known about FSC before FSPassengers...So, at least in my experience, I've never felt I was ignored by Dutch.

Any news on this?

Not yet - Dutch has been under the weather and dealing with a tremendous backlog of work.
I think the idea is a good one in and of itself, but I can't speak as to when / if anything can come of it.

I know bumping this thread will get annoying. I just though one last bump would be good now i see Dutch is back on the forums and back in action!
Thanks,
Martyn

How can I upload my flight reports to my own website? Do I need to have FSPassengers installed also or a file from that program?

You don't need to have FSP installed, but the website that you need to upload to would need to be able to receive reports in the format that they used.
I'm sorry but those details are not in my area of expertise, Dutch knows more about them, and he's still well under the weather....
