Hi Gents!
Is there a way to disable the "2 lb Ice" message that comes up on the FDCU because that message blocks the messages behind it saying ar more important information (when I am ascending and descending too steep)?
Thank you!

That has long been a sore spot with me and for 1.8 we will implement a "rolling message queue" so that if you have more than one environmental message, they would alternate.
But for now you can go into the options.cfg file and set IGNORE_ICE to the minimum amount (in pounds) to trigger that message. (I have mine set to 5.)
I'm not certain which version of FSCaptain introduced that - 1.6.3 never left beta (it became 1.7.0) so I'd encourage you to update to a newer version.
Please also know that it may not actually be "ice" that triggers these messages - it's what we refer to as "Extra weight that can't be accounted for." Newer versions introduced a "CanThereBeIce()" check that would suppress those messages if the outside conditions do not make ice formation possible.
Regards,

Thank you a million Travis!!!!
I'll use that edit in the cfg file and try out the 5 setting to see if that will prevent it from showing (as long as I don't have something else triggering it such as the unaccounted weight you mentioned)
I've found v.1.6.3 to be SO, SO, SO, SO, SO very stable and dependable that I'm stuck like chuck and lovin' it...however I'll install the 1.7.2 when it's released on another hard drive of mine to check it out and test, test, test.
P.S., I'm really appreciative for both Dutch's and your immense contributions to our wonderful, cloudy, sunny, rainy, shiny, fun hobby!! Please take my sincere thanks to heart for all you gents do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do I edit the options.cfg or the options_current.cfg?
Or both?

Hi FSXlover,
just edit options.cfg, that'll suffice.
Cheers, Peter

Thank you Peter, will do!
And I can't forget to thank you Peter also for all your work also...I can't be sure, are you on the testing team for FSCaptain?

FSXLover,
Thank you for your very kind words about FSCaptain.
We each love it and when it "misbehaves" we each do our best to correct it so that it will function best for all Captains! Options_current.cfg was a "write-only" file that FSCaptain would write on each launch. We never read its values. It's gone now, we simply re-write options.cfg with all current values. (Except the "secret options.")
Peter is a key member of the core FSCaptain team!
He is on the internal test team - he and Dutch get my builds before the Alpha test team. Just in the past few days he has found a bug that I introduced last week. So our Alpha Test team has Peter and I to thank for a day's delay in getting a build to them!
(When 1.8 rolls around and I pass the baton back to Dutch, Peter and I will get Dutch's builds before the Alpha test team. That's the way it works around here.)
As for your situation, I would suggest this, make a backup of your 1.6.3 FSCaptain folder (along with the FCDU/FCOM gauges) - download the file at www.fscaptain.net/downloads/My_Safe_Backup.zip and follow the instructions there - and then install the current release (1.7.2 RC2 is in internal testing and should be released to the public by this weekend).
If you don't like the new build for whatever reason, then just copy the backup files back over your "live" files and work with the version that you like!
With regards,
|

Thank you Travis!
I'll download that ZIP to back everything up and place my files on my other hard drive for testing 1.7.2 when released!
Looking forward to enjoying FSCaptain even more and for years to come!
My hat is off and hand extended to Peter for excellent work testing!

Hi FSXlover,
thank you for your kind words, I am glad you enjoy FSCaptain. I am mostly helping in the forum and do testing, but I also am involved in developing something that will be related to FSCaptain. That will take some time though, as my real life job is taking its toll on my spare time.
Cheers, Peter

Peter found a new CTD today (while I was out with Mrs. Travis for a day-trip) so I'll be busy tomorrow.

Thank you kindly for the good thoughts. A new build went out to the test team today - last week's build had a couple of silly CTDs that fall on my shoulders, and I've locked down the code for 48 hours so if any new CTDs are found, I'll be able to diagnose and correct quickly. With luck we'll have a public RC2 available sometime this weekend....
