Hi all,
I've been having issues on and off recently with FSX, but I think I have managed to stabilize the program. I had installed FS Captain 1.6.2 and it was working/showing up in the addons, but it is no longer working. It looks like my anti-virus program thought it was a virus and quarantined the admin.exe, but I have since excluded all FS Captain files. I have reinstalled both 1.6.1 and .2, but neither have gotten it to work. I am running Windows 8.1 with FSX SP 2. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you!

Hi Jsalita,
you can use the external FCDU.exe instead. I recommend to try this at least to test if the program works at all. Does the FSCaptain Administrator run?

The FDCU is installed internally and does run through the complete flight. They only significant difference is that the keyboard shortcuts do not work.

So the FCDU works during the entire flight?
Just to make sure that I expressed myself clearly: the internal FCDU is like an FSX addon that can be started from within FSX. The external program FCDU.exe is a Windows application that is located in FSCaptain\Bin\ . There function is exactly the same, but they connect to FSX in a different way. If you experience issues with one version, it is always a good idea to check if the other works.

Jsalita,
Can you see if the dll.xml file has the entry for FSCaptain? It should be here - C:\Users\[your PC username]\AppData\Roaming\MICROSOFT\FSX\FSX.CFG.
In that file, look for a block of text that looks like this:
<Launch.Addon> <Name>FSCaptain</Name> <Disabled>False</Disabled> <ManualLoad>False</ManualLoad> <Path>FSCaptain\bin\FSCaptain.dll</Path> </Launch.Addon>
If you can find that, this may not be a problem. If you don't find that text, you can email us your dll.xml file and we would be happy to add it for you.
Are you running FSX in the \PROGRAM FILES (X86)\ folder? This can can cause problems if your permissions are not properly set.

After adding that text to the dll.xml file, FSCaptain now appears in the addons. Thank you.

Jsalita,
You're very welcome.
I'm puzzled because the Admin.exe should have taken care of that for you. I'll step through the code and see what's happening.

Just as info, had the same problem but the suggested solution fixed. Running FSX-SE. As another little piece of feedback, placing the FCDU outside FSX fixed every problem I ever had with FSC. Good move!

This fix worked for me as well, also running FSX Steam Edition.
