Dutch, I wondered if you'd been keeping an eye on the release of this wonderful creation? It's a fantastic aircraft and plugs a gap in available aircraft that's been around seemingly forever.
However, the sad fact from an FSC point of view is that the designers have had to resort to running the FDE outside of FSX and, in effect, use FSX simply as a scenery generator.
On that basis, there is no way currently for FSC to play happily with it. However, I did read that Majestic had approached Bryan York of FS2Crew to produce one of his add-ons for it. That implies that there is some sort of SDK available which you might then be able to interface with.
I'd be interested in your views as this is a wonderful add-on and it's a crying shame that we can't use FSC with it.
Andy

It is a shame. But if there is an SDK we should be able to connect up an interface to it. But the interface is designed to handle some of the more exotic signals not the basic ones. But we can expand it.

Is it possible to disable some penalties like cargo damaged, rough flying etc.? Because otherwise that plane works...you can takeoff and land at any destination and fscaptain will know it and rate it. But you just get score 15:) Disabling penalties can be at least a temporary solution.

I've a basic "signals" interface for the Q400 that I'm testing, but so far there's no way I know of to avoid all the "flameout" calls, etc.
I've been busy with non-simming things for this year, so I need to reach out to Majestic in regards to what's exactly possible.

The 0.1 version of the Q400 interface has been posted in the Interfaces section of the FSCaptain File Sharing area.

So is that going to fix FSCaptain not detecting Dash 8 flight maneuvers properly (causing copilot to complain and bad points)?

It's a start, in that it should now detect landing light settings. I have a feeling though that it will take some extra coding to the core of FSCaptain in order to fully mind meld with the Q400. Oleksiy at Majestic replied quickly and positively to my inquiry last evening, so I'm confident it'll all work out soon enough. Other Captains could assist by noting what's not working in their flights. Number 1 on the list:

So I planned a hands-on flight from CYVR to CYLW today. Right after takeoff, I had a code 702 - right engine failure. But the turboprop was actually chugging along just fine. The G meter kept going from 1.0 to 0.0. Phantom Free fall?... I had anticipated something like this, so I flew with myself in the right seat. ("Two nuts behind the wheel have to be better that one!") For 40 minutes I had to listen to a really annoyed me complain about... nothing really. Every time I'd bank, I'd hear "Oh good grief!" or something. After 20 minutes or so, my wife walked in with the question "Are you okay in here?" matching a concerned look on her face. Once she saw me flying, her look changed to a I really don't want to know look. "I'm fine, but recorded me is really unhappy.... Even though he has no actual reason to be." She shook her head at the scene of utter senselessness in front of her and left. Anyway we landed, taxied in, and parked (On time again! Booyeah!) Only scored a 57 though... seems I took damage somehow, and the PAX were most unhappy about something. Maybe all the complaining from the cockpit?? But I did get a Lights Bonus, so good on that.... If I get time, I'll try a very short flight in the next few days - something utterly simple like KSJC to KSFO (take off on one of the 30s, climb to about 4000ft, bank left just a bit, fly for a minute or two and then capture a glideslope on one of the 28s and slide on in - I call it " The Bayshore Traffic Jam Bypass."). I'll turn off failure detect in FSCaptain, although I did score a Landing With Failure Bonus. I'm sure things will be sorted out after the next Q400 and FSCaptain updates, but we'll see what we can do in the interim to make things a little less unpleasant.

Ok great to hear you are looking at it I really love the MJC Dash 8 but partial incompatibility with FSCaptain (and all other similar software for that matter) have kept me using it as much as I would like to.

Any updates on this? I just did my first flight with FSC after having bought it and this Co-pilot got thoroughly on my nerves.
Edit: A proposal: would it be possible to disable the "bad-flying flags" when one uses the Dash 8 at this time? FSCaptain is essentially unusable with the Q400 at this time, and removing these flags temporarily would at least enable us to use FSCaptain as a basic Acars system.

I am having the same trouble with the dash. What you can try is to download v0.3 of the Majestic Dash interface from the file exchange website (http://fscaptain.net/atm/) and place it in your FSX/Gauges/FCOMPNL folder, overwriting the old one. In the current version FSCaptain ships with versio 0.2 of this interface. However, even 0.3 didn't solve the issues for me.

Hi Andy,
thanks for making me aware of this file. However, It didn't help me either: a score of zero for a perfect flight. At least I had the Co-pilot suppressed so that he didn't annoy me during the flight.
The best thing: while the FA apologized to the passengers for the bad flight, I was awarded the title "Authentic Hero". Probably because FSX always thinks that the gear is damaged when you fly faster than 260 Kts (even with the gear retracted).
The bottom line is that FSCaptain appears to be unusable with the Dash 8 at this time. I will probably go back to the competitor that I used before FSCaptain to fly with the Dash 8. It is my favorite plane after all.
Cheers, Peter

Well the Q400 works for us, so we need to see why it's not working for some users. From the log files we've received, it seems that the Dash is presenting itself slightly differently on some users' systems, even at different times.
Dutch is working on a new way to ID that the Dash is being loaded. Stay tuned.
If users can email us the FCDU log files for flights where the external interface is not being recognized, that would help.
Please do not post your log files in the forum!!

Peter, When using the 0.3 interface, did you add a reference to the XML interface file to your Q400's panel.cfg in the [Vcockpit01] section as noted here? If so, could you check the second page of the INFO - INTERFACE page in your FCOM as shown here to see if the items that should be shown, in fact are? If they are not displayed, please email us the FCDU.LOG file following your flight (or non-flight, as it were).

Hi Travis,
I am sorry, I made a mistake when installing the 0.3 interface. Now that I corrected the mistake the Dash 8 works perfectly fine with FSCaptain.
Thanks a lot for your help, Peter
